not that it's overrated as in being a bad song. i like wonders at your feet and would love to see it played live. it's just that it's a song that they released and most people who don't appriciate dt would think that it's "catchy" and like wonders and wouldn't appriciate the rest of the material on haven when the rest of the matierial in my opinion is alot better(ex. not built too last, feast of burden, fabric, ego drama, emptier still, the loss for words)
just like when metallica released "one" off "and justice for all". don't know if you like old metallica but one was a good song but the rest of the material was much better. and out of any metallica album ever made was the most technical and had the best lyrical content. so everybody listens to the radio, loves one and it happens to be one of the mediocre songs on that album.
but every band has been doing this for years. they almost always release the most catchy radio friendly song on the album, the one that sounds like it will appeal to the greatest audience.
when i listen to damage done i never skip over monochromatic stains but if i had to choose my favorites i'd choose the hours passed, single part of two, or the enemy. monochromatic stains is still one of the best songs on the album but it is more catchy. for an example my roomate doesn't listen to anything but the radio and also listens to rap. he heard it and said, "that sounds pretty cool, kinda catchy".
oh well, doesn't change the fact that wonders or mono. chro. are great songs. if i was in a band i'd do the same thing. even when you are dedicated to making good music and not selling out it still comes down to being able to put food in your mouth and pay your bills. now dt seems to do pretty good because they're worldwide. but the cost of touring seems staggering to only charge like 14 bucks for a headline show. on top of that for most of this tour they are supporting, not all that lucrative. but i wonder if they are very well off or just make enough to cover costs, pay bills and have a little extra. cause we all know that the record companies take way too much, but even if that's the case they get paid to have one hell of a cool job.
