Those who know me know that I love the stuff, so here's a whole thread to share your discoveries of the metal scene in Finland (please number your recommendations to help us keep track).

Here's two totally new ones I came across tonight:

1) RAIN PAINT
http://www.myspace.com/rainpaint

Listen to the first song, "Purity". Doom a la Katatonia, Anathema, Novembers Doom with great lyrics and an excellent clean voice! I think these guys are brilliant!

2) RAUTA
http://www.myspace.com/haudanmaa

Prog / Folk / Metal. Really original sounding stuff with a much more original sound than the Finntroll clone bands. Mind expanding stuff!!!

+ One I've known about for a few weeks that I'm really excited about...

3) KYPCK
http://www.myspace.com/kypck

Russian Doom from Finland, featuring "S. S. Lopakka" (SENTENCED) on guitars and "K. H. M. Hiilesmaa" (producer of H.I.M.) on drums!!!

***PLUS!*** Thanks to our good Finnish Metal friend 'T-Moo', WOODS OF YPRES now has a profile page in English and Finnish at Finland's Miskeri Metal Community: www.mikseri.net/woodsofypres So now more Finns can continue to discover WOODS OF YPRES as well!

Cheers to 'T-Moo'!!!

Hey guys, cool thread! :)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned October Falls (accoustic folk/melodic bm depending on a release, excellent stuff in both styles) and Thy Serpent (apparently now defunct).

Speaking of folk/instrumental: Tenhi are pretty good.

Was listening to Thy Serpent earlier this week, always nice to revisite old stuff. It ages well even if it's only 8-10 years old. Christcrusher! :headbang:

Turisas, Korpiklaani, Finntroll, Moonsorrow, Ensiferum

And there are probably tons more really good ones I've never heard of (like that are being posted in this thread!)

For those that like the folk side of October Falls, might check out the bands Nest and Nostatus. Much more on the folk side than metal, but really atmospheric and great stuff. I think all the Finnish metal bands I know have already been mentioned. And a few that I've not heard of but will have to check out now.

Also more on the folk side: Poropetra. The man from Nostatus is also in that band, and I believe they also share a member with Korpiklaani.

Edit: links :)

A couple of more interesting bands for the atmospheric folk:

Nest
The Mist And The Morning Dew

It's pretty much incredible how good Thy Serpent's Forests of Witchery is even today. It's a real shame that they're apparently dead now.

Well These bands are the most famous but they still deserve to be mentioned because they are awesome.

Nightwish
Children of Bodom
Sonata Arctica
HIM
Amorphis
