Ok, so this started off as a tone test for my Fireball with Impulses (some of you may know that I've had a few problems, ahem).

Anyway I thought I give Wagner mk.II a bash as well as trying out TSS. Heres some comparisons between them, all using my Schecter Hellraiser in Drop B, GuitarHacks impulses.

The riffs aren't too exciting (just reminded me of recent-era Soilwork) but I found it staggering how good a free amp sim sounded compared to a £700 tube head. Both the leads are Wagner in all three clips btw.

First clip: Fireball, 2 tracks + Parallel Compression

Second Clip: Wagner, 2 tracks + Parallel Compression

Third clip: Fireball + Wagner, 4 tracks, no Parallel Compression

There's definitely room for improvement (hopefully Recabinet should improve these!!).

As a side note Nick Crow is meant to be working on 5150 emulation now, if so what does that make Wagner?? Smooth distortion, tight low end and lots of mids (at least compared to the Fireball) = 5150 to my ears.

AFAIK Wagner is based on a Bogner preamp.

Nice comparison and good work, I didn't get my Fireball to sound that good with impulses...

Well, its been a struggle to get the Fireball working with Impulses (see my thread in Equipment), but I think I am on the right track now...

In fairness I didn't try Wagner without the Tubescreamer in front so my tonal assessment probably isn't very accurate.

The Bogner thing kinda explains the name, isn't the owner of Bogner of German/Austrian descent? I seem to remember his first name being Reinholdt or something- explains 'Wagner'...sorta:goggly:
