Fireface or Digi 003 Rack?

General opinion, from what I've gathered, is that the RME has better quality pres/conversion. A decision like this really depends on if you want to go with Pro Tools or not.

Yep, Fireface without a doubt unless you wanna use PT, and in that case I'd go M Audio Profire 2626 and M-Powered

The price of the 003 is marked up because PT LE is included. It will work with any software.
The RME is marked up because they can. It will work with any software except Pro Tools.

I'd go with 003+rack personally. 8 preamps comes in handy.

nope i dont want to go to pro tools) so everything is clear)

hmm - i really dont need a many inputs - for a drum recording - or other multichannel recording i prefer to send to a big studio

i need a card for a 1-2 channel recordings with a hi-end quality - the next buy will be an hi end pre - Vintech or API...

FIREFACE 400

Without a doubt - it only has two less analog inputs and two less preamps than the FF800, otherwise they're the same for a lot less!

No point in 003 if you dont want protools, unless youre wanting the console version for the faders and a hands-on approach..
I have the 003 console and its awesome for that, I really like it. Pres arent great though, I dont use them anyway - have an octopre.
If you werent wanting the hands on approach of the console version, or the option of using PT, go with something else, definitely. HOWEVER, if you think you may end up wanting to change to PT later, youll be fucked if you get soemthing else :P

Yeah, provided you're on a Mac and would ABSOLUTELY NEVER see yourself needing more than 2 analog ins, the duet would work (only half-kidding ;)) - does it work with Cubase though, or only Logic?

The Fireface for sure. Though my actual vote would go to the Multiface II for expandability and of course insanely low latencies (my Multiface I does 0.7ms due to the HDSPe card). The great thing is that the Multiface comes with no pres, so you can pair up whichever preamp you want with its decent converters, or if you decide to expand in the future, just hook up more converters via the ADAT lightpipe.

But whichever option you go with RME, you're pretty much assured great drivers and support, unlike Digi.

2 channels? Why not Apogee duet?

does it works with PC's? i don't know - i love Apogee AD/DA converters - but i am not sure that:
1)is it the same converters as on the Rosetta?
2)does it works with PC's?
3)it has small price... telling me that it's not working with PC and the converters are not the same with Rosetta)))

I highly doubt that it has the same converters. It is just a convenient (yet probably good sounding) interface.

Honestly man, go with the Fireface 400 for your needs. It will be a really solid interface. I have a Presonus Firebox that I dig as well, but would buy a Fireface 400 if I had the cash.
