This feature is only used to make a direct signal (guitar/bass) more pleasant to listen to while tracking, right? Does it just roll off the highs and lows on DI tracks?

basically, yes. I've used it for a synth direct in as well.. I guess the idea is that you could plug a guitar direct, activate the drive and speaker emulation, and get somewhat of a usable tone.. or at least, it won't sound *as* harsh as just a regular DI, haha.
