First Thrash Band Ever ??!?!

Definitely OVERKILL! First and last (I guess, there are a few more left, SLAYER, KREATOR ANNIHILATOR!!, but Overkill will be there when they´re all gone)! Metallica? No way. TAFKAM had "Kill ém all" out first, but Overkill were founded in 1980.

what did overkill sound like in 1980? just because they were founded in 1980 doesn't mean they were playing thrash in 1980.

Overkill is a great choice! :headbang:
I'm not sure if everyone will classify this as a thrash song but....
Accept's Fast as a Shark is a thrashy song from 1982!:headbang:
What do ya'll think!!!

Right. Those days they played for Donna Summer:worship:

well slayer at first wasn't thrash, they played fast covesr. like someone said at first overkill played fast punk covers so they weren't really thrash. not sure about bands but certain songs sounded thrash like before 1982
motorhead- ace of spades
black sabbath- symptom of the universe
twisted sister- under the blade
accept- fast as a shark
twisted sister- tear it loose

Zeppelin may have made the mold but Sabbath crushed the mold into a fine powder and snorted it! Now that's fucking metal!

Iam not sure but if the thread starter means realy speed n thrash and not anyknids of other rock, so i think my first thrash album was nearly taking over and under the influnces from OVER KILL. But nearly the same time i got The Walls Of Jericho from Helloween.

But the first record kicks me off was Slayer `South Of Heaven, Reign In Blood, Kreator `Endless Pain and Extreme Agression and Sodom`s `Agent Orange. Metallicas Master Of Puppets i liked but i listning more KREATOR, OVERKILL and SODOM.

everyone seems to have forgotton all about venom. in my opinion their first 2 albums especially black metal are pure thrash, the vocals, guitar and everything. period.

Hi,
If I remember correctly Bathory from Sweden was one of the first (or the 1st) bands to call their music "thrash" or "trash" metal...I think Hellhammer (which became Celtic Frost later) played similar stuff...in the early 80's...but who came up with that term - I dunno.

Venom said in the interview on their double vinyl compilation album "From Hell to the Unknown" that they are not thrash metal like Metallica.

T:)

hmmm...what about Exodus? Their early demos were pretty thrash to my ears...and they were original songs...not covers.

Venom and Motorhead 1979/80
Anthrax 1982/83
Metallica 1983
Imho these bands set the standard that was the birth of the speed/thrash genre with the releases of those years. Of course there are many many contributors But these guys took dark hard music and added crack n whiskey to the mix. But then again I dont know shit so take it for what its worth
