FLIGHT OF THE VALKYRIES 2008 HEADLINER REVEALED!

Nathan, congrats on uneXpect. They're very talented and one of my favorite bands of late. Too bad I'll be in Europe during the festival, or I would have considered attending :(

"too bad"? You deserve a whack over the head!

refreshing and talented

I can understand if you don't find bands like JOP, Enchant, Spock's Bear, and Zero Hour as refreshing, but I really can't take your opinion seriously when you say none of these bands are as talented as uneXpect.

Nathan, when are you going to move to Chicago? I'm sure there is a theater that is up for sale somewhere that you might be interested in.

Hey there!!!

Actually I was looking at a theatre in Chicago about 3 years ago, but it didn't pan out.

Chicago is one of two cities in the whole US I would consider moving to. I am actually very content in Minnesota but if I was going to relocate, it would either be Chicago or LA. I love Chicago and I haven't been there in like two years, so I'm definitely overdue for a visit.

Keep an eye out for an empty theatre/club for sale for me!

Nathan

P.S. I can't wait to buy your book!!!

Yeah! Especially because then mine and Nick's plans to move to St. Paul, Minnesota for Swordlord's great shows/festival, his cool theaters, and one of the greatest metal scenes I've ever experienced would be completely for naught. :Shedevil:

I tell you, the day you & Nick move out will NOT be soon enough! Everyone keeps asking if you were serious or not. And it would be great to have more true metallers around here...

Yeah he does do great fests... I look forward to all his shows and fests. I am also looking forward to the Heathen Crusade 3 Fest.... MN rules for METAL!!!!!!!! :Saint:

Most certainly. If you're in Chicago before September, you may be able to get a sneak peek at the book before the public does.

p.s. After the book comes out, I'll seriously look at the idea of Evil Penguins: the Video Game. Someday, your post will read 'P.S. I can't wait to play your video game!'.

Why not? You must be insane if you aren't aware of the level of talent Unexpect possess. I mean Enchant, Spock's Beard, and Zero Hour...they're great bands (let's just say I'm not going to PPUSA for Jon Oliva though... hehe), but Unexpect is definitely more unique and definitely more talented, at least in my opinion, than those bands. Not gonna start a debate on this though. :D

If you are serious about that, I know a bunch of video game coders in my neck-of-the-woods who would die at the chance to code this. I would produce the project. Give me a call sometime and we'll discuss it. I think your drawings are perfect and I have sent emails to all my friends about the book.

Nathan

Just because a band is more unique doesn't make them more talented, IMO.

You're right about that and Unexpect is certainly a band that would seem to fall into that dreaded "love-them or hate-them" category.

I have seen my share of metal shows both as a spectator and as a producer. While I definitely have not come anywhere near having "seen it all," I can categorically state that I have never seen anything like Unexpect before. Not only are they unique, but in my opinion, they are extremely talented and they really make it "work." At a glance, it wouldn't seem possible to be able to make so many genres of music work together in a metal band but when you see them, I think one would agree that it does. And if you are looking for a high-energy, high octane stage show, very few bands deliver quite the way this band does.

So that's my two cents. I am very happy to have these maestros of metal on the bill this year. I am looking forward to having some of you in the audience for this very special festival in it's second year!

About the music,
Nathan

YOU ARE AWESOME!!! I most definitely will follow you up on that. My agent plans to send the finished book out to film agents who also do some video games. I have to wait and see...I'll contact you privately. Don't want to hijack the thread.

You most certainly are!

Dude, I had SOOO much fun with all of you when I came down for Maiden. The next time a big show hits down there, shoot me an email and I'll have to come down.

I would come down there for Chicago Powerfest but unfortunately I'm running Paganfest that Friday. I just don't know how wiped I'll be after that, I'd like to try to make it down on Saturday, but I just don't think it will happen. At any rate, I'll make it a point to get down there and see you all - we need to hang out more than once a year in Atlanta. :)

Seeing them was certainly the highlight of the Epica concert in NYC. After listening to the album so many times, it was hard to imagine just how they would be live. What really made me happy is that they didn't seem to use much (if any) backing tracks. The more and more a band removes live elements of their music to perform live, the less I'm inclined to want to see them. Unexpect manages to pull off all the "chaos" and not give up anything in the progress. Of course, it's a double edged sword for them because as pretty much everyone says, their style of music is pretty much love it or hate it. I also don't think many people are in the love it category which is why they haven't had much success in 10 years. I just think there's too much going on all at once for a lot of people.

Also, the bassist is fucking insane.
