For the artists

^ I agree, my favorite album cover is probably this one

Other than the fucking cheesy jesterhead, that IS a good cover...

Thanks for the link man.

I often wonder where the artists come up with these images, what inspiration.

The Minas Morgul cover is overly-obvious.

Otherwise, I'm amazed with the imaginations that come up with these paintings

Understandable

Butwhat do they do?

I'm guessing they talk to the artist and relay their atristic ideas to him.

Because if it was based purly on what the tracks sound like....

I wouldn't be able to interpret much of anything with the growls and everything.

Decrepit Birth - And time begins owns (cover and music)
I like stuff like that, but sometimes i find something like 'at the gates - the red in the sky is ours' cover more fitting to the album.

But in the end illustrated cover art owns, it captures the essence of metals dissident scene. Digitalised bullshit is crap most of the time, for example 3d eddies suck dick compared to the old maiden covers.

Yup, also the cover to "Whoracle" too. Great concept and design.

Besides fantasy/mystical-type artwork like Summoning's awesome covers, I am also a big fan of surreal, otherworldly artwork such as the following example below (the cover to Fleshcrawl's debut album).
