Freedom Call!!!

... for every "Oh God no", there are 20 "Oh God, Hell Yeah's!"
Seriously though, is your Confuscious saying the reason why you don't like them, or is it something else? I can admit, the stuff can get repetitive, but most power metal (to me) is repetitive; and all I care about is if it is done well. To me Freedom Call do a great job.

If you want someone a bit different without the ordinary high vocals, how about Stygma IV. A great band that definitely deserves more recognition.

Hell no from me too.

And your right on the reason. I dont mind repetitive, but sometimes alot of Power Metal is TOO MUCH the same shit.

The following bands IMO only suffer from this fate....

Sonata Arctica
Freedom Call
Startovarius
Rhapsody
Wizzards (Not Wizards from Brasil who are awesome)

Theres more but you get the hint.

That's all well and good, but I don't understand why no one ever includes Gamma Ray on lists like that. They've been around for so long, but they haven't grown musically in the slightest, while Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica both have. And they do it with more skill than Gamma Ray. I don't mind a little Gamma Ray here and there, but I don't understand why they're hailed as such metal gods, when there are infinitely superior bands out there.

Did you see the Gamma Ray show this year? That, in itself, is reason to hail them as gods. And I was only a marginal fan before they played.

Yes, of course I saw them. Edguy, Angra, and Silent Force were all much more impressive, in my opinion...and I enjoy their studio stuff much more. The same problem I have with their albums is the same problem I had with their performance. Every song just ran together, so at times when my attention wained, I wasn't sure what song was playing when I started paying attention again...the same one that was playing before, or a new one, or perhaps even several songs had passed.

I love Freedom Call and I'd love to see them at PP IV. But I'd rather go see them with other fans who love them as opposed to having to defend them from prog-nuts. So if that's the case, I'll get my Freedom Call fix elsewhen.

why do you say that? half of those bands would be good to see!

Because thats MY OPINION.

And I agree Gamma Ray should be lumped in that group as well. Theres more too, Im just not thinking properly right now hehe!

Im all for Power Metal but it really gets over redundant.

Thats why I like Pagans Mind so much. Even bands like Edguy, and Angra keep it fresh (as well as alot of other bands).

Dream Evil, and Hammerfall are starting to really get the knack how to keep power metal fresh. Both bands new CDs I think are really good!

I'm not familiar with them, but I'd say "Oh God, Hell Yeah!" if it's power metal ... I just can't help but love power metal no matter how cheesy or repetitive it may be sometimes ...

So ... I'll add them to my list of bands to check out ...

Yeah! Freedom Call would be a good choice. They've been great on the couple of occcasions I've seen them live and are (IMHO) far more interesting than the likes of Gamma Ray (yawn - and yes I have seen them 3 times in the last year or so), Sonarta Arctica (who took a turn for the worse with Silence) or the absolutely yawn-inducing Blind Guardian (I'd have slept through most of their set in Atlanta, but some bastard kept waking me up). Oh, and yeah ... I'm one of those 'prog-heads' too.

A 'prog-head' with lousy taste in Power-Metal perhaps ;)

Prog-snob alert!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Seriously, I'm a fan of BOTH sides of this eternal battle.
Hammerfall getting the knack to keep metal fresh? I don't think so, and the best stuff I've heard Gus G. do was on the Firewind cd. Don't you think the over abundance of prog-wankery is just as over redundant? It's over saturation on both sides of the fence. As this festival grows, less & less people are going to be 100% happy with the lineup. For me, this past November's lineup was a dream come true. I hope Glen tops it this year, I know I'll be there!

J-Dubya - two words, FREAK KITCHEN!

Nah no need to give a detailed explanation. I think its silly for someone to call me a prog snob just because Im not a fan of over redundant/repetitive, super fast E string picking, uptempo doublebass power metal. ITs fine , until 80% of your CD is consumed with it.

Yes Dubya I saw the smile but Im pretty sure you had me tagged as a "prog snob" regardless.

Well you would seem like more of a prog snob if you put back the 234623784236846237842368423428 Dream Theater and Vanden Plas CDs you had listed there til you changed the list.
