Friends new album - Fredrick Nordstrom

Thanks a lot! Really appreciate it.
It´s all ITB, and rythm-guitars is going straight into a EVH 5150 mkIII, Marshall Greenback cab. Sent into the poweramp of a Peavey 5150 to an EVH cab, two 57 on each and that´s basicly it.

amarshism, I´m going to brisbane gold coast late december-january. We should hook up for a beer or two.

totally gotta try the slaved amp thing as crille has mentioned over and over. the tone on this tune is fucking HUGE!

Ooops, forgot to say that I sneaked in a Peluso 2247LE mic as well, together with the 57:s on the Marshall cab.

how'd you position the peluso if you don't mind me asking and how high is it in the mix?

Also, were the 57's typical 'fredman style' or on different speakers? i just cant believe how HUGE this tone is.

Double tracked?

ONE MORE I PROMISE: what preamps were used?

The 57:s are on the same speaker, normal on/off axis "Fredman style" The Peluso is positioned straight into a different speaker next to the 57:s.
It´s a bit hard to say how loud the peluso is in the mix, cause all 3 mics are summed during the recording into one track, and the 2 other 57:s of the slaved amp is summed into a second track.
It´s not that much peluso tough, just pulled it up untill it sounded right, to get some more high-end.
Single-tracked.
Pre:s are the Digidesign Pre. The ones that everybody hates

Good stuff re: committing the mic blend on the way down. Probably saves a lot of hassles down the track with balancing. Is there a general level balance that you teeter toward with the two 57s? Like having the on-axis one generally -6dB down etc.?

I'm curious because I've had a lot of reamps done over the years with the 'Fredman' mic array, but have never once had better results with it than using other arrays and positions. You've obviously done a great job with the tone here, so it leaves me wondering what we're missing!

Anyway, congrats again. Won't hammer you for any more details, haha, I know how annoying it gets.

Every part of this post made me smile....multi micing....committing to tape.....using gear people shit on(usually w/o actually hearing it)......and the results.

Maybe a stupid question, but how are you summing them into one track, and then into protools? I would love to do something like this. The last album i did had 4 mics on guitars (slaved amps) and i ended up with like 60 guitar tracks when it was all said and done. If i could cut these tracks down on the way in it would make my life so much better come mix time.

You have various way to do this:
- preamp mult from the patchbay
- mult from the console
-itb

For itb:
Create 2 aux (for a 2 mics situation)
Route your aux imput to your imput ( input 1 and 2 for exemple) and route both aux output to the same bus (for exemple bus 50).
Route your track imput to your bus (bus 50 in this exemple).

Now your 2 aux feed your track;)
