Frontier Design Alphatrack controller

I'm just inches away from getting an Alphatrack controller, it seems great, just great. Does anyone have any first hand experience with it?

Damn that doesnt look bad at all. I am currently trying to decide if the Tascam us-2400 is worth the cash, i know its discontinued but i have found one for $750. has anyone here used one? if so is it worth the money

750 is an excellent price for one of those. If you have the money I'd jump on that.

Yep, the features are nicer on this one. I was looking at the Presonus Faderport as well, but the Alphaport caught my attention.
Yessir, the LCD screen and the LEDs telling you what the hell buttons are enabled beat out the Presonus on their own. Plus you have three CUSTOMIZABLE rotary knobs. :kickass:

Yep.....(bottom of it is in my avatar)...love it.....it can be slightly flakey, but I love mine. Have had it for nearly a year and couldn't work without a control surface now.

US-2400 user number two checking in, here... I got mine brand new from a dealer on e-bay for $609 + $35 shipping, just a few months before they discontinued them. I agree with sparkyness, it is a loveable piece of gear, haha. DEFINITELY handy for arming/disarming tracks during tracking, and muting/soloing/playing with the volume of more than one thing at a time on the fly. The only thing that would make it significantly better for me would be plug-in control for Pro Tools, and an actual display strip of track names on it. It comes with (or you can download) this SoftLCD software that displays track names along the bottom of your monitor, but it's useless because you can just read the track names in your DAW anyhow. I would really love to have a Control|24, but when you consider the price gap between that and the Tascam, I feel that at this point my money could be more wisely invested into other pieces of gear.

Haha, are you talking about when you close a session and it picks one fader at random to leave up? It happens to me maybe once a month at most, and there is never anything wrong with any of the faders, but it's still really weird!

Yes. It works in two ways. Either in Mackie Control Emu mode or there is an excellent alternative over on Tascamforums.com which one of the users has done in "User Mode". I find it is slightly less "flakey" that way. It will also allow you to switch banks in groups of 24 instead of 8 like Mackie mode.

Setting the thing up and getting it up in running can be a bit of a pain, but as I said.....I love the thing.

You'll also need the latest firmware from Tascam too for full Nuendo support.

Thanks man im going to go ahead and pick it up. Just noticed they are going for about $1000 on ebay, so $750 is not bad at all
