Fuck it, I think I'm just getting a Honda

damn you gugs and damn spring fever .. :loco:

Ok, so I might have some type of upgrade bug in me. Not sure what it is, might be that I am used to swapping cars every 3 years or so, and it will be 3 years in August that I have my 03 Mini Cooper ... or ... well read on.

Went to Manhatan BMW today to run some #'s ...

Choice #1 ... get an Mini Cooper S ... an 06 ... this makes sense now, as I can literally jump into one for the same monthly payment as my MC given the trade in value and what I owe on it ... so it would not hurt my pocket at all.
Plus I can actually order one as I want it ... my current MC was off the lot.
I really like to wait for the 07, but am a bit afraid of the first year bugs, not that I expect anyhting crazy to happen ... but still.

Choice #2 ... lease an 06 BMW 325i
Since I got that loaner a few weeks ago I fell in love with this car. I mean, performance and pure class at the same time, for a very reasonable price. I culd not afford to finance this with all the bells i want, BUT, working the #'s, I could actually lease it for 3 years, tradign in the MC ... and pay the same amount of money monthly as I am paying for the MC now ...
I really like the BMW, seems a bit more "mature" so to speak ... flame on
The real problem with this option is I HATE LEASING and being tied into it ...

Choice #3 ... finance a used 2-3 year old BMW 3 Series sedan or wagon.
I can probably get this for about $25K ...price of the MCS and be able to own it outrigth ... again with the same monthly payments.

The main point for me is not to lay out any cash from my pocket, keep the same monthly payment and get to drive something new.

Just to screw things up some more, I am also thinking about an Audi A3 ...

So anyway, at this point the MCS is making the most sense still ... but I am swayed by the lease on that new Beemer.

Opinions, thoughts ... ???@?@?@?@?

this part made me laugh. id suggest doing the exact opposite here - perhaps paying cash for a car that you might drive for around 300,000 miles but im not going to suggest that because youll laugh.

what would the lease be on the '06 BMW? and what would be in the car? and what would you have to put down?

i got pulled over doing 127 tonight

wha wha? ... in Jersey? ... what's the penalty for that?

well ... I priced a 325i w/ Sports Pack, Xenons, Sunroof, heated Seats ... about $35K sticker.

They told me about $7K down ... which would be covered from my trade in ... would be $375 a month for 12Kmiles ... $395 a month for 15K ... 36 month lease

oh it would've been steep, but it was in Paramus, where my brother is a cop. he was NOT happy with me, took my (his, really) gold shield right out of the window and said I was "out of favors."

that's what I thought. I just can't possibly see/justify putting $7K down on a car that I'm going to lease, i.e. not own. Just kissing your $7K goodbye IMO

you are definetelly right about that ... this is why it is not looking good to me ... plus I don't like leasing ...

might do the tradeup to the MCS ... or wait another year and see what happens with the new cars ... and hopfully I will be in a better shape financially as well to be able to outright afford a 3

right. good rule of thumb is if you can afford to put down more than $3-4K, you should be buying the car, not leasing it. If you don't have the cash to lay out of pocket up front, then leasing is the way to go

i am not a big fan of outright buying a car either ... the only reason I did it on the Cooper and would consider it on the Beemer is the ridiculously high resale value on both ... #1 in the industry.

absolutely.

when I owned my 325xi (the only car I've ever bought as opposed to leased), I got it loaded for $34K, put $4k down and financed the remaining $30k over 5 years (still cost near $600/month w/ 6% APR).

at any rate, I was almost 3 years into the car when I finally got "rightside up" (in dealer speak, that means I owed less on the car then it was currently valued at the time). with 35,000 miles on it, it was still worth over $24k at just under 3 years old. nice

hehe ... I heard this "rightside up" for the first time yesterday.

I have been rightside up from year 1 on the Cooper ... after 30 months on a 60 month term ... I still owe $9K, but the car is still worth around $16K ... was $20K when i bought it ...

that sucks .... did they key it?
mine was keyed some months ago on the hood and right side ... had to repaint it all. fuckers!
