This is now my fourth sick day in a 30 day period (all 4 were totally legit, thank you)... except tonight I didn't bother calling in. Honestly, I loathe that job so much I'm actually laughing over my possibly getting fired.

Would anyone else like to unleash AIDS upon their place of employment?

You do realize you're legally obligated to list them as a job reference and they're not going to be nice about it right?

Yeah, but EVERYONE leaves FedEx by just walking out. And we've got a pretty high turnover rate.

Also, I'm already hired at the haunted house in October, so by the time I'm looking for another job that will be my most recent reference. Not a great one, but they won't be bitchy about me.

You work nights a FedEx? I used to work at UPS just across the airport from you I guess, 2am - 6am, it was fucking shitty.

Luckily all you have to do to quit UPS is turn your security pass in. Which I did 3 days into the Fall Semester. I had a choice of, money and no life or friends and no money. Oh well, J Mall isn't so bad.

damn, fedex is really that bad??

and i don't think you're legally required to list all your employers. a friend of mine who used to work at sprint was accused of stealing a lot of money (charges were total bullshit) and when i got him to apply at walmart he just didn't put sprint down as a reference, and not only did he get the job, but he was made a customer service manager after literally 4 days there ... i mean, it's walmart and all, but ... yeah, no legal obligation to list shit jobs.

Legal being if they find out, you're fired and have no recourse because you lied on an application.

well, they had to do a background check on him as part of the hiring process and, i'm not totally positive, but i think the accusations would've come up and he obviously has the job ... i dunno, could just be walmart, or that he hadn't gone to court over anything

This might be a question for Samantha and Cara, as they tend to do background checking for a living. In as far as I know, it's relative to the company... based on my own experience, if you have legally collected a paycheck from a company (i.e. they have sent money to the Feds and Social Security under your name and SS number) you are obligated to list them. However, except for companies that are high-security (or extremely paranoid), you can generally get away with falsification to a certain degree. There was a company I found out was giving me a bad reference and I started leaving them off my resume/applications. As it's been over five years, I don't really have to worry now, but when I started leaving them off my employment history, it never came back on me, even when I applied for a security position.

you don't have to list all your jobs, no...

however, fedex uses an online database (The Work Number) to verify employment, which i utilize a million times a day. this database does not give out the reason for leaving and blah blah blah...just verifies the dates and position. so you could list it on an application. i wouldn't provide the exact location of where you worked or the phone number, thus forcing whoever's doing the background check to utilize the database from the start. they actually have a 1-800 number that you could put down. don't have it handy at the moment but i could get it.

Hoetra Plastic Recycling god damn how numb-working was that job...

*nods* What she said!

As I no longer work there, please direct your 911 Emergency questions to me.

I can call you a nonsensical, empty-headed, foolish machine. I can call you a stupid, unwise creature whose sense is no more than the sound of a winter wind in a hollow tree. I could call you a sucker of cocks, for instance, but you have no mouth. I could say you're viler than the vilest beggar who ever crawled the lowest street in creation, but even such a creature is better than you; you have no knees on which to crawl, and would not fall upon them even if you did, for you have no conception of such a human flaw as mercy. I could even say you fucked your mother, had you one. I can call you a faithless creature who let your only companion kill herself, a coward who has delighted in the torture of the foolish and the slaughter of the innocent, a lost and bleating mechanical goblin.

Kill if you will, but command me nothing! You have forgotten the faces of those who made you! Now either kill us or be silent and listen to me, Roland of Gilead, son of Steven, gunslinger, and lord of ancient lands! I have not come across all the miles and all the years to listen to your childish prating! Do you understand? Now you will listen to ME!
