Fuck!

They already shut down MySongBook and Powertab quite a while ago... :erk:

ultimate-guitar.com seems to be still working.

Apparently UG got a letter also and just told the NMPA to go fuck itself... so they're probably gonna fight it and stay up.

How? All the tabs confirm that they are without artist consent and are only a tool for education, not a be-all end-all to tablature.

Yes they do, but for some people that's apparently not good enough. This is what MSB has to say:

"Providing some tabs - even made by ear - of copyrighted music is illegal. In order to respect the law, downloads have been limited to the [Composition] and [Competition] files. We are going to make our best to find a solution to offer music content without infringing copyrights."

I'm just pissed because those two Vio-Lence power tabs were only on metaltabs, they had the solos tabbed out and sounded perfect. I kept telling myself I should save them but I never did.

So if I whistle a song a little out of key, am I in copyright infringement? If so, I hope these people have something really bad happen to them really soon.

No, that's the legal bullshit in the US. At least the lacrosse players were acquitted...it's sad that everyone's surprised that the system actually worked for innocent people.

that ultimate tabs site is way better than metaltabs. sucks that they're being preyed upon. tab books cost more than the CD's. and i don't even think guitar pro versions of songs are marketed.

you can read the details on the issue at wikipedia.
