fucking TRIALS...raw mean and menacing

nuno are you listening on cans or speakers? on my cans the guitars are above the rest of the mix a tad, but on my desktop speakers they sound fine.

The guitars are insane Lasse! I would watch the fizz on the top a tiny bit considering how clean the mix is otherwise.

I'm getting a kind of Soilwork vibe on the drums, and I love it.

Man you HAVE to reveal how you get this type of snare. You keep nailing it! Tuning? Heads? Mic'ing?! Details and samples naoooo!

Mix-wise.. guitars are insane. That snare sounds REALLY sampled tho, surely more than 20%? And the kick too! Fucking AWESOME drummer if it is only 20%. I would back off on the room decay of the snare, I think its just a bit too much. Could have a bit more ring to it? And the drums as a whole are quite boxy, too much room around 400hz methinks.

Would love a dirty or clangy bass under this, as someone said, and raise + brighten the OHs.

The clean vocals sound really out of place :/ Maybe put some synths there to help them out? I'm not sure.

well, the problem with how I'm getting this snare is that it's causing some negative side effect (little dynamic, raised room/tail)....I'm using parallel compression....and a metric fuckton of that! like 20-25 dB compression until the parallel track it pretty much only nasty ringing (some massive EQ also)....then I've blended in some sample (I think it was Snare2 of my pack...not sure, but I think 2 was the ringy one).

I listened in my monitors. This is without a doubt a good mix and the guitars sound huge but I dont like that honkyness/boxyness kind of sound. It´s just preferences, nothing more

Honestly, I too feel the rhythm guitars are too loud, especially since the drums sound so freakin' awesome; I dig the tone though, just think it could get pushed down like 2-3 dB, it's kinda overwhelming right now IMO - love the sound and tones of everything though, especially the snare!

EDIT: And dropping the guitars would probably make the bass more prominent as well, which would rule :kickass: And I assume this is quad-tracked, how far out are the inner ones panned? Sounds like 80L/80R? (think I'd prefer 90L/90R, but probably wouldn't be as noticeable if the overall level were lower)

:OMG: Wow, Lasse!!! Love the guitars, love the drums, great mix so far. You know your shit very well.:kickass:

Agreed. That last Body Count album was not nearly up to the high standards set by "Cop Killer" or "Born Dead."

AGREED. Though their 3rd album, "violent demise : the last days" was great IMO (my fav being Born Dead).

Now back to the topic : this mix is great, and that song is just badass (love the opening part and the acoustic ending also).

Still i agree with some of the comments that had been made : guitars are a bit too empowering in the mix (listening on my cheap speakers that i'm used to), i wish there was more bass mid-range too.
I can see how one can relate to Soilwork when it comes to that drums sound. Not a huge fan myself. Sounds also a bit Tue Madsen, in a less heavily compressed/clicky agressive way IMO.
(check out Eyeless - enemies inside of me http://www.myspace.com/eyeless)
EDIT : actually i think it's because the riff/part is somewhat similar, and not much the drums sound, nevermind :)

Also, Lasse, when you say you hardly blended any samples, what was your "source material" ? Was it the same we can hear on the previous mix of the song the band posted like on year ago on their myspace ? Or did they record that song again and submitted you new tracks to work with ?
I am asking because i think the original version was just perfect and amazing sounding :)

Finally, i agree that band kicks ass, been listening to their songs they've been posting so far a lot.

I'd have to agree that the guitars are a tad too loud. Great apart from that though!
