I just read a little interview with the Ayreon's frontman(?) about
Åkerfeldt's participation on the album "The human equation", 2004...

I just wanna know: isn't this exactly the Mike we know:

- What was the most memorable moment?

Arjen: I asked him [Mikael] to do an improvisation at the end of the album.
Now so far the singers gave me a beautiful or impressive melodyline, but
Mikael just gave me the most ferocious deathscream I have ever heard!

Mike's so cool! Always doing the opposite of what you think he's going to do.
He obviously could have sung a great melodic bit - don't question it - anyway
he just chose to let it rip! Good stuff: the interview with Ayreon.

What do you think guys? I really think Mike has one of the best vocalist
(death/clean) in the world... His articulation, intonation and sound are just
great imo. Discuss!

I read that, you know, a year ago.
Anyway, I was surprised that Ayreon used Mikael. But it really added a new dimension to Arjen's music. Mikaels singing is my favorite parts of THE. No other DM vocalist could have pulled this off. ie, singing on an Arjen album. They have similar influences but they went in different directions. s'great to see them working together.

He, he, I just listened to some tracks from that (Ayreon) album... but after listening to Mikael's parts there for a while, I just HAD to listen to Opeth immediately!
He is, like, infectious! You'll get the 'peth virus...! And you like it! :)

Deadwing. The new one. He did backing vox on a few tracks and played a solo on Arriving Somewhere .. But Not Here
