Wilson-Portnoy-Akerfeldt update.. sort of

I think Akerfeldt and Portnoy can think for themselves. I know what you mean, especially with Porcupine Tree and Blackfield, but SW doesn't just have a magical mind control wand.

OSI was with portnoy and steven wilson was only on that one track yet managed to turn it into one of his own (also make it almost intolerable :p) ;D

Sounds pretty hopeful.
Man I'm really liking Devin Townsend at the moment.. I wonder what it would be like if he was in on this new supergroup.. even more interesting!

See: Blackwater Park, Deliverance

I'm sure they wouldn't create a band so that they can sound the same. Plus, one guy from Prog Metal, one from Prog Rock, and one from Death Metal will sure make an interesting combination.

Those don't count cause he didn't contribute in any meaningful way besides the production. Backing vocals on a couple tracks and a couple passages of keyboard as outros/intros is not the same as a full-fledged collaborative songwriting effort.

i would love that...

IN all honesty though...this group could release the biggest pile of shit in music history, and poeple would eat it up due to who makes up the band.

not saying they will, just that they could

I can't wait till they put something out though.

^ I love Dream Theater's music. I hate hate hate James LaBrie though. He makes Dream Theater seem so cheesy.

His voice is acquired taste. I think he's a great singer... especially for Dream Theater.

Kerry King

ps: I'd bet this is going to slay. And fuck, I'm sure it will end up being heavy just not as heavy as Bloodbath or whatever. I'm sure this is heading more towards Opeth's direction as opposed to PT or DT.

I DEFINITELY second that... In fact, I call him James The Brie (speaking of cheese...)... I personnaly hate it when he sighs as a divaaaahhh... But who else could sing in that band now that he has made so many albums with them?

Anyway, the Wilson, Porntoy (!!!) and Akerfeldt project sure has a lot of promises, I can only hope they stand up to it!

Cheers !

Well during the O.S.I sessions he did not, let's see for this project...

Yeah, he was completely restrained on OSI. He also used a small drum kit on some of the other stuff he did as a side-project (like Transatlantic), but I didn't like that much.

Well, I'm sure MP won't cause the band to sound like DT because he doesn't write any of the melodies or riffs. He just adds awesome durm tracks. SW and MA are both songwriters who write the majority of their music, so this will be very interesting.
