I just recieved a promo from Swarm of the Lotus 'When White Becomes Black'. The label is called At A Loss Recordings. I have no clue why Relapse missed these guys.

I thought I was hearing Mastodon, Today is the Day, and Converge being analy raped by Satan himself.

Dreamlord you will absolutely lick the hair right off my balls when you hear this. I'd also recommend EVERYBODY else keep an eye on these guys. I don't know if this CD is available for sale yet, but I'll keep everybody posted.

FUCK ME!!! This is some AWESOME shit. I don't want to say it yet, but this is probably better than Mastodon. 2004 has started off VERY strong. The talent, song writing, and anger are just insane on this. Even the drumming is on par with Mastodon.

I wasn't that impressed with the drumming on that sample, but it's just a sample. The music was damn good though, it's like Mastodon on steroids.

When I first put the CD in I about pooped in my pants because the drumming was just going crazy. For a second I thought the Mastodon drummer had a side project. After a while I realized the drumming is probably closer to Converge than Mastodon. Mostly because blast beats are used.

I am listening to "Volatile" also ... most of you know I am from the old school camp and not sure what to make of this.

What genre is this really? There are some nu-metal elements at play here .. especially starting at the 1:50 mark of this song.

Now I wonder what you guys find so brilliant about these bands? Pure agression ... OK ... but this shit has been done much better years ago by pure hardcore bands.

I'll have to check out "Volatile" specifically, but I assure there is no more nu-metal in Swarm of the Lotus than there is in Mastodon. I suppose if you don't like Mastodon, Converge, or even Lamb of God, you won't like this stuff either.

Yes, hardcore bands have been angry before in the past, but bands like Converge and Swarm of the Lotus are now adding great metal guitar and instrumentation to the old hardcore formula.

Swarm of the Lotus is no more groundbreaking than Mastodon, but they are a VERY good band. The songs just jump right out at you.

Well, I didn't hear any nu-metal on the song. Yes, there were some slow riffs at the end of the sample, but I wouldn't classify that as nu-metal.
