Gamma Ray - Chicago 2-3-11

I prefer to think of us as these guys:

Shreddy it was great meeting you. Plus we got to share an odd moment in the mens washroom when that bloody guy walked in.

Gamma Ray were in top form and actually ended up playing almost 2 hours. It was a great show for such a low turnout. I am sure the weather didnt help. At most there had to be 100 people there. It was great seeing all the other Chicago Axis tonight. We were in full force.

I missed District 97. Got there and ran into Al and Joan. Had to be stuck listening to the awful sounds of Acts of Destruction. Just a plain terrbile band Generic in every sense. Did not fit this show at all. Bad thrash. Seen them twice....they used to be a 4 piece but now they are 3....someone got smart it seemed. More of the Axis showed up with Simon, Jose,AirguitarLoomis, and Jason. A bunch of other people who go to ProgPower showed up. It was a nice big group. A few others where there to who post here. We got our picture too. Hopefully Joan post it soon.

The next crap act was Atomize. Wow.....painful. These guys were trying so hard to be metal. They even seemed like they were taking pot shots at Gamma Ray. I could be wrong but from the bits I heard from the singer onstage seemed that way. Again....they created thier own genre of metal....unlistenable metal.

Mindwarp Chamber was the only opener who really fit this show. People really got into them and a few people here actually went just for them.

Finally Gamma Ray came on. It was pretty much the same set list from these past few dates with a few little joke songs tossed in. My only grip is that they made some of the songs longer with playing goofy stuff. I would have loved to see them cut that stuff and played 2 other songs. The small crowd was totally into it and everyone was chanting and singing along. I think the band was even surprised by the reaction they got. I am sure others will post reviews as well. It was great to talk to everyone again.

damn I missed the picture.

District 97 were phenomenal. Much better than on the CD. Would definitely go to seem them again. Acts of Destruction were okay but definitely fit the fold of a typical thrash band. Nothing special but slightly entertaining to watch. Atomize were really bad. They had goons that went into the crowd during the set to start moshing but nobody really wanted to mosh. They definitely used Gamma Ray to get applause for themselves. Lame. Mindwarp Chamber really blew me away. Picked up the Supernova album.

Gamma Ray played so long I couldn't believe it. They sounded amazing. I stayed after and got to meet them and get some stuff signed and some photos. Such nice dudes. What a great night. Now I feel sick and dead tired and sore throated but it was worth it. Time to go to work...will post some pics later.

wish we ran into you. The best part was I told Jason that this guy was you and during "Ride The Sky", Jason was jumping and grabbing him and going crazy and then asked if he was you....the guy looked confused and said "No". The ultimate set up. hilarious.

The Chicago Axis photo looks great. Thanks Joan.

Thanks for the picture Joan and thanks for being in it, it would of been an epic sausage fest without you! :zombie:

Yeah that was a long ass set. I think Kai broke the record of how many times a person changes guitars onstage. He was having all kinds of problems keeping them in tune, the weather had a huge effect on them. He probably changed guitars at least 30 times.
Yeah turnout was poor even though this was the fastest I've ever gotten to Reggies from my house and also the closest I've ever parked. It's was nice to see.

Great seeing everyone!
