Gas prices effecting anyone else?

That's why I drive a Honda Civic and own Oil Company stock. I figure if I an going to get screwed, I might as well make the best of it. :Spin:

In Florida in my town it's 2.79-2.89 a gallon. As I drove south for a job interview it was 2.89-3.00. These were regular unleaded.

Also, yes gas prices suck.

I've also been unemployed since April 11th and am still managing, somehow to make it to PP this year.

Ironically the place I worked at's business was selling casino gambling trips to Biloxi MS. If the business didn't close in April, it would have been forced out now, and either way I'd be out of a job. 9 years at a job and making great money to nothing. Gotta love life.

Considering how many Europeans we have on this board, it makes us look like whiny bitches to complain about gas prices.

Besides, there's no one to blame but us. We keep on wanting more gas, more gas isn't being made, so the price goes up. The way to solve it? Use less gas.

I know addicts never like to hear this, but blaming the pusher isn't going to get you off your habit.

"Ban NASCAR, truck pulls, and other sporting wastes of fuel."

That is honestly one of the most intelligent things I've heard. I never thought of that. If NASCAR was banned temporarily, there would be a revolt in this country and that is what we need. Not because of gas going to $3, but because there is the ability to do travel in more efficient and cheaper means. Nobody will do it because everyone seems to be making money off of gas except those of us getting screwed. Public Trans? I live in central PA so there is none. Car Pool? We are so spread out around here, it would actually take more gas to pick someone up. NObody is "on the way to work" so you have to go out of your way. Ride a bike? Yeah, like 15 miles one way in a suit. I don't think so. THis bullshit is killing rural folk for sure.

LOL, I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not........ :Spin:
Seriously, if I have to wait in lines for gas, I better not see the shit being WASTED on TV. I'll go Apeshit-Nuclear-Ballistic... I may be commuting by mortorcycle next year if this keeps up...

Well, if we had the kinds of public transportation systems here that they have in Europe, I think there would be a lot less whining. I need to go to work. I don't care how I get there, but it's just not possible where I live...

Yeah, it just doesn't work that way.. I also need my car to work.. And no matter how expensive gas is, I will drive the same amount of miles... And here in south florida pubic transportation is non-existent..

But this doesn't apply to europeans only.. In Brazil it costs over R$100.00 to fill up the tank of a compact car....And it's been like that for years now..

I ride a bike and use public transportation here in Coral Springs. Don't know what the issue is.

And almost all of us could stand to get a more fuel efficient car, or drive less. We always think we can't, but watch prices go high enough and you'll see how creative you can be.

Where do you go by bus in Coral Springs?

I lived in Coral Springs for 5 years and never took the bus once!! LOL I rode my bike to some places, but I mean.. It is VERY hard getting around by bus

I drive an SUV... for multiple reasons: Number one being that my friggin' keyboard is almost 6' long in its case, and having an enclosed vehicle as compared to a truck is a safety factor for my equipment. I did choose a 4banger that actually gets quite good mileage for an SUV. That was a conscious choice because I am concerned about the depletion of natural resources. I maintain my vehicle so that I can get the best mileage possible, and because it's stupid not too. ;) Not all SUV owners are evil, and some of us detest the *other* type as much as many of you do. Knowing that, I am constantly barraged in California seeing Hummers and Escalades carrying one person talking on the cell phone... and it pisses me off too.

It is long past due that technology advances go from the research stage to the actual development stage. Hydrogen fuel cell technology. Hybrid cars... these need to become more readily available soon. Very soon.

The post about NASCAR made me think of something I read about recently. Many of the Formula 1 cars that you see kicking ass around tracks use some rather nifty technology that increases their gas mileage and parts durability astronomically. It's called Cryogenic Tempering. This link is an eye opener, I assure you. This technology could dramatically improve both the gas mileage and durability of literally any vehicle. More information can be found here.

yeah... im about to go on tour with my other band Lilitu. I just hope we sell enough t-shirts and cds everynight so we can afford to get to the next venue.

I know that you would have had enough to get to the next town if Lilitu would have hit up Arizona on that upcoming tour as I sure would have bought a shirt or two but alas no AZ date.:ill:

My hatred towards trucks or other big vehicles don't mean everyone. I can understand if someone lives where it snows all the time or they live in the mountains where 4 wheel is a necessity. It is pointed towards people in flat lands where it really isn't needed. Heck, I lived in Michigan most of my life where it snows a heck of a lot and I survived quite well with a small sized car.

The US would be anarchy even if they had thought about improving all the public transportation services within cities, states, and from state to state as if they built it and we were alittle more open to it, all the car companies would get all pissy about it.

I know that the cool public transportation in Portland is what almost pulled me to move there for a job at that Intel. I always love taking the rail in Atlanta from the airport to the hotel area. It was the same in Chicago when I flew in for one of the Anthrax reunion gigs.

Part of the problem is consumer resistance.

Yea, I'm only angry at those who don't need them and just use them as a status symbol (or "compensation" vehicle. :p ) Still, there are options opening up for more fuel efficient SUV's. Check out the Ford Escape Hybrid.
As for the snow thing, I spend a lot of time on the treacherous, icy, mountain roads of Vermont and all the locals drive all-wheel drive Subaru's. Never seen one stuck in a ditch and I've seen a LOT of SUV's getting pulled out. (Usually driven by tourists from New Jersey. :D ) What I've been trying to say is that Americans CAN make a difference even if we just start out in small ways. Most just haven't tried and I think they may start now with this current gas crisis. I remember the one in the 70's when everyone ran out and bought Volkswagen Beetles and Datsuns. People criticized my father endlessly for being irresponsible and driving a Dodge wagon. We had a lot of kids. It was such a shock to me to see the attitudes change over the last 25 or so years.:Smug:

My habit? Are you insane? I have no choice!!!

And thats Europe I live HERE, I dont know what the job market is over there so Im not interested in comparing. I do know that around here the average job pays a measley 9 bucks and hour which is why I cant leave my current job.

Gas is up to 3.29 for regular here. Heard could jump another 50 FUCKING CENTS this weekend.

Where does the madness end? Im basically signing my paychecks over to the oil industry so they can buy 4 and 5 summer homes.

Why nothing is being done is outrageous. People better wake up. We could see a recession, and the Economy could crash. If you think NO is bad whats it gonna look like when looting is going on nationwide. At Logan airport all the talk is on Gas, and the tempers flaring is quite disturbing. Keep pissing off the Civilians, and you could see mass hysteria. You will see more violence, robberies, crimes, road rage, and so on.

What is the Gas price in Atlanta? I hear they are fucking gouging up a storm. This is insanity.

Forbes mag shows whos made top profits this year, and sure enough its OIL COMPANIES.

Every other excuse is nothing shy of BULLSHIT. We are legally being raped, and its SICKENING.

Well, the bottom line is that 99% of the people that own 4 x 4 SUVs need them about like they need another hole in the head! Car mfg.s have made their SUVs a status symbol and of course we Americans fall for it everytime!

Everyone needs to realize that we do live in a free country. That means we make as much money as we want, spend as much money as we want, use as many resources as we want, etc., but there are consequences for having I don't give a rat's ass attitude! I'm very grateful that we have these freedoms by the way, but people need to know their limits.

There's nothing wrong with saving money, cutting back here and there on luxeries, and being concerned about our environment. I don't believe we need to walk around scared or paranoid, but we need to care! If you have this sort of attitude you get lableled in a negative manner, to say the least.

My point being, if everyone would cut back just a little, then a little adds up to alot! IMO, I don't feel like that's too much to ask.
