German circumcision ban

I guess I don't understand the point of the law other than to create a culture war. It certainly isn't analogous to female circumcision which involves the removal of the clitoris. I'm not German though, and male circumcision is very common in the US regardless of religion which of course colors my perspective.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18793842 The law is the law and should not suffer exceptions for religious conviction.

Just think this way: religious conviction equal to culture. Now, if they make a law against loud heavy metal shows that could hurt people hearing would it be a good law?

I think that its not possible to limitate some kinds of cultures by law, since the state comes from culture. There is no state if there is no people

The only difference is you have a choice whether or not to attend those shows and if you do/don't wear earplugs.

Just saw the Penn & Teller's Bullshit episode about circumcision the other day and I must admit it changed my opinion about it.

my buddy saw the same one and it happened to be right before his kid was born

he decided not to have his boy cut

fast forward a couple years ... had to get his kid cut, kept getting infections. Was probably a lot worse for him then than if he'd done it right away

not saying that negates any evidence to the contrary or not ... just saying that one source of information is probably not enough to make an informed judgement

afaik it's not very common around here, most of the circumcisions are done to older people because of
medical issues, a good friend of mine who was born in the USA and lived there from time to time studies
medicine at the moment and said that it's just a different point of view, you can do it, but you don't
have to in many cases and in the USA they often do it, in Germany-not so ;)

about the religious part, in my opinion a surgery like that isn't that bad, especially when it's done
to a baby, so why should you ban it? it's way different than the female circumcisions.
I actually don't know anybody here who's pro that law, even most of the christian priests and so
on are against it...and every German politican who wants to ban something that is bound to the
Jewish culture should think twice about it or he's going to have a bad time.

If it is the law then religious conviction shouldn't be excluded from it.
+ I think it would be pretty nice if one could decide for himself if he'd want to be cut or not, if it's not for medical reasons.

With the same logic one could argue that baptims should be banned too (everyone should be able to decide for himself if he wants to be part of a religious group or not), but since you don't get physically hurt in that ritual it doesnt seem to be raise that much of an argument.

You've gotta be some sort of skanky ass parent for your kid to get an infection downstairs, circumcized or not.

This ruling is obviously a good thing. Because fuck religious bullshit with archaic hang ups about sex.

Do we even have to bring up the amount of post-circumcision infections??

BTW, male circumcision from a religious pov, is EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME AS FEMALE CIRCUMCISION!

again, I was actually being neutral about it

aside from that though, i can't say I agree with the idea you'd have to be a bad parent for your kid to get an infection there ... might as well say the same for ear infections and such

Have you ever actually observed how disgusting kids can be? :D

I was a kid once. My fingers have been mucky! :D

Although I would say kids don't generally run around sticking their cock into the dirt like they do their ears! :D

Yeah obviously I was being a dick. But I can't be neutral about this. To me, genital mutilation is the same thing, regardless of the sex of the child. The historical reasons for circumcision has to do with repressing sexual desire in children. It is quite a big thing within American culture though, and I can understand people wanting to defend that. It isn't a huge thing over here in the UK - most people think it's just barbaric.

As for women preferring it... even if that were true, so fucking what!! If I preferred a really trimmed labia, how much of a cunt would I be called for even expressing this thought? In certain circles, I'd be completely castigated.
