Getting a good snare sound

Andie, quick question buddy
is it true u can only get a massive/great sounding/consistent snare sound, only by triggering it.....or is their a special way of micing a snare too get it sounding amazing, without triggering ???????

It depends on the drummer really. I'll tend to trigger and mix it with the natural snare. You could always try routing the same signal (natural) up another channel and really compressing it hard, then blending this with the original signal.
