alright, so due to all kinds of bullshit, i've been thinking about snagging a new amp lately...then the other day i got a coupon in the mail from musician's friend for 20% off my next purchase, along with free shipping - this pretty much sealed the deal on me getting a new amp. i don't really have the money for it right now, but the coupon expires feb. 29th, so i guess i'll open up a credit account with them and pay that shit off interest-free in the 1st year.

NOW...i'm looking at a budget of $500-700(regular price)...so far i've been eyeing the krank rev jr half-stack. this is going to be a pretty tough call, but if anyone knows of any other good amps in that price range, i'd be more than willing to listen to suggestions. and please, make sure that anything you recommend is currently carried by MF, and retails for $700 tops...if i get anyone mentioning a 6505, i'm going to e-slap them.

yea, i already have a marshall 4x12 kicking around

my head took a shit on me quite a while ago, and of course there was only guy in the entire area who fixed tube amps...it took him forever to find the replacement parts needed, and now there's been more issues with getting it repaired beyond that, and it's been sitting at his place for over a year.

on top of that, i just moved like 2300 miles, so now i'd have to have it shipped on top of the $200 or so it'd cost me for the repairs. as a result, i'm at the point that i'd rather just say fuck it and get a new amp.

on a sidenote...if anyone wants a good deal on an ampeg vl-1002 that runs super-hot, just PM me...

On MF, there's not much choice in that price range.
The Peavey Valveking's specs reminded me a lot about my old Ultra Plus.. which was quite awesome... but never tried a Valveking, though.
I recall someone on this forum said it was pretty good, after changing tubes. Try searching...

I played the Valveking down at the nearest Guitar Center last time I was there. Not a bad sounding head at all. I had it moved over to a Mesa Trad cab, and it got some decent heavy tones. I think I played it with a RR-1. I was definitely impressed. And if you need more gain stages, there are always pedals. But for recording, we keep the gain lower anyway. Plus this had a better clean than most Peavey's I've heard/played.

I'd consider the Peavey Windsor - Oz has one and really likes it, and I played one at a Samash and was quite impressed

i'll see if i can find a windsor around here to check out...

i recorded some guys a while back who had a valveking, and i didn't like it that much - i remember actually liking the other guitarist's behringer(gulp) more than it, except for the constant fucking squealing it would let out

and speaking of the big B...i wonder when those bugeras are going to be available...i could probably live with rocking 1 of the 5150 ripoffs for a little bit

i've heard 1 of the SS heads, and it was pretty decent

but i've also been told multiple times that they have reliability issues, which is the last thing i need to deal with at this point

BTW...does anyone know when the fuck those bugeras are going to be available? i tried checking their website, and of course when you click the links for pricing, availability, or any of that shit, nothing fucking happens
