Getting Clients?

3. and to me this was most impt... samples of your work! you wouldnt believe how many producer ads or studio sites i've come across without any song samples. i dont even waste my time responding or contacting those.

4. this is my subjective take: i wanna see diversity in work. i wont go with someone who's done only metal, or only "insert random"-core tracks. i think a broader portfolio brings a broader perspective to the project. but then again, i'm not a metal project, i just have elements in it. but i think the more skills they have with diff genres means theyre gonna bring alot more insight/experience to the table.


so... for those who are looking for ways to get their names out there, and who arent being "found", i would suggest this:

1. try negotiating with clients whose projects youre really proud of, to do mutually beneficial advertising for each other. ie - put each others banners on your pages/signatures for XX number of months or whatever.

2. give them a "discount" on your mixing/mastering or whatever fees if they put your contact info on their cd insert. even just your name/studio name and website is all. this is only if thats not already a part of your contract/verbal agreements, etc. and the discount is in quotes because only you will know if you actually gave them one ;)

3. a little sleazier, or more used car salesman-y. but whatever, we are talking marketing/business here! once you recognize the "talent(s)" in the group your recording, stroke their ego and ask them about their other/side projects. encourage them to "pursue" these other projects and make an appt outside of the booked studio time to check it out

anways... not sure if this is blatantly obvious or not, but i've not come across these very much (if at all).

Well - I never advertised as well as I really should get my website updated ASAP as well as I don't have any soundfiles availeble.

But I was sold out 8 months in advance the complete last year. This year is a little more easy - and maybe I will have some downtime in the summer.

So it seems that I really should get some things up-to-date ASAP.

Its word off mouth for me, and as of right know i'm taking whatever job i can and also emailing whatever person or band who was interessted my work and wanted to hear more and my way of working.

While going out or playing with my own band, i talk to alot of bands about recording, only 2 out of 10 actually give you a call right away, the rest are your typicall lazy musicians, and need a push in the right the direction, and mailing those other 8 bands about your work could make that number 8 out of 10 bands you talked to while on the road :)

I allready have about a band a month for this year and along the way i take get some demo recordings aswell.

i cant take bands i dont like beacuse if i dont like them i dont put the same effort to make it sound great.
ok maybe this makes me the worst engineer ever but...
do you put the same effort cooking your favorite food and your most hated food?

Wow - thanks a lot! That really means a lot to me because this is my favorite band in the same time! Yea - that mix was something special. I/we did it in one single 48 hours session straight - because of a deadline, haha - after that I was dead! Glad that I did not had one single chance to revise or modify anything because I am most sure that I would have changed a lot the other day :zombie:

Please start a thread with progress post's that would be unreal.

But I think we are way offtopic here. Maybe a mod can move the stuff in another thread or something...

Oh wow, that explains a lot. I hope this time around you get a bit more time to do it!
