Hi everyone. I'm quite new here and I'm only getting started in production/mixing. I have some question that I couldn't find on this forums or anywhere else. It's about getting that "TRUE" sound of real screamo titans like Raein, Tristan Tzara, Daitro and others. Are there special tricks to make the sound so wet? Is it wet sound anyway? :) I would be glad to listen to your tips and tricks about that. Thanks :)

I'd say it's a particularly dry sound with a lot of compression. There's no real trick other than the screamer using his guts.

I'm happy someone on this board makes the distinction between this type of music and the garbage people call screamo nowaday btw.

I think it depends; some of these bands have that dry sound, but a lot of them also have more of natural room sound generously blended in on specific elements like drums or to a lesser extent, the guitars. One of my favorite productions/mixes is Majority Rule's Interviews with David Frost and that EP has some of that thick compressed character, while also being natural and dirty. As noted above: lots of compression -- but also room sound blended to taste and perhaps saturation on most or all of the elements in the mix.

I got this. First off, the singer has to have just hit puberty. That's a must. He has to dress "homoish" and have a "gay" hair cut. Next insert a butt plug in his rectum and cover the vocal booth with pictures of male on male porn.
For best effect, have another dude in the vocal booth with him. He should remain quite, his job is to give the singer in question a hand job. Eventually he should switch to a blow job, respectively. Right at the moment when the singer starts to reach climax you burn the fucker with a hot iron, this is the real secrete. Rinse, repeat and record. Perfect "screamo" sound every time.

Radio shack microphones are known to capture this technique the best.

Disclaimer: I personally do not have experience using this method. I'm only paraphrasing what I read in "The idiots guide to screamo vocals"

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Condensing microphones will be better, I think. It could also capture the sound of burning flesh. And thanks for the warm welcome :)
