Gigantour 2008 lineup revealed

In Flames and CoB are great for this tour, but why not add such stalwarts as Dark Tranquillity, Nile, SYL, and Dimmu Borgir to the bill as well?

I would like to go see this as long as I dont get Prison Raped on the ticket prices. The only 2 bands I haven't seen on the bill are HoF and JFAC. I wouldn't mind seeing HoF, last time I saw In Flames (with Lacuna Coil) Henrick from Evergrey was playing guitar for them.

Plus WARMACHINE just won a contest to be included on the bill, so now in my opinion if they are on the bill, then that is the reason I will go.

High on Fire are easily the best band on this bill. But they're touring regularly throughout this past fall and early winter 08 on their own. I'll have to look at set times vs. ticket price for this one.

The problem I think is that Mustaine is trying to a)stay relevant to a new generation, and b)out OzzFest OzzFest. He sees that the only way (in his eyes) to stay competitive is to have GiganTour be somewhat like OzzFest. If you look at this lineup, this is an OzzFest-type lineup. CoB and In Flames have gone KoRn on everyone. JFAC is pure garbage. Who High on Fire is is anyone's guess.

It's just sad that for all the yakety-yak of not having a scene in the US, that instead of giving opening slots(aka 1 0r 2) to deserving American acts (Kat V, Suspyre, Zandelle, Stride, Outworld, I can continue for the next two weeks), they go get some cockrock band from a major label that does little of nothing for the headliners.

Let's be honest here: Who pays $50 for Megadeath tickets to see High on Fire?

Do you even listen to metal? Or do you just spend your time scheming about what goes on behind the scenes and make assumptions about bands and stuff that you forget to actually listen to the stuff?

I can understand not liking High On Fire. I don't like them either to be honest with you. But wow, to assume that nobody has heard of them.... They have a bigger following than every one of those bands you've listed. (not one of which, have even toured the US once... What makes you think they would even get offered this tour?)

It's simple really. If you've followed Dave's statements, you'd see that they're using a third party to get the bands for Gigantour this time around, rather than doing it himself like he did the first two times.

Personally I think this is a bland and unexciting lineup that really has nothing to do whatsoever with the original purpose of Gigantour, which was a guitar driven festival tour. That's a shame.

Unless there's some major inflation, I don't expect anyone to be paying $50 for a Gigantour ticket unless they're a crazed Megadeth fan who goes for the whole gold package. I paid $10 for the 2006 Gigantour. I'm fine to do the same to see High on Fire with the other bands as bonus. It'll be interesting to see if they perk up an ear here, an ear there, and how they handle being the opener that has to wake up the crowd. When they get going on Gigantour they will have finished three headline tours (2 in the US and one in Europe if I recall correctly). Matt Pike has spent over a decade as a big fish in a medium-size pond. He may be looking for the fresh challenge of working in front a mostly-new audience as opposed to headlining in front of crowds who already know and adore them. I caught them on their recent headline run and their energy was boiling over. I'm into Sleep as much as the next guy for sure, but in HoF, Matt's found his true calling and his confidence and enthusiasm should help them go over well on Gigantour.

As far as helping out unknowns, I understand the virtues of that. Has anyone heard if Dave has any stipulations on venues or promotors adding local openers to the shows in each city? I believe that if he doesn't actually say no, then it could be allowed for venues and booking agents to add local openers and have the doors open earlier accordingly.

I couldn't agree more w/you! In fact, when the bands were being talked about early on; they were diff bands; & I tought WTF? & I E-mailed MD on My Space, & was like please don't turn this into another OzzFest! & in response, they deleted me from their friend's list!??:hypno:

Yeah, Dave has become an Ozzy clone. Sad but true!

Are these bands paying Dave to be on this tour? Is Dave having to use a gimmick to get people to come to these shows? Is Dave getting every company known to man to sponsor the tour? If Dave is really becoming an Ozzy clone, why would he even bother to have less bands on the bill and eliminate the second stage completely so each band can have a fair amount of time on stage?

Please use your brain before you decide to post.

Yes, I do listen to metal. And, I STILL have never heard of High on Fire until this posting. That is why I said what I said regarding In Flames and CoB.

Alexi....return from the darkside...please!

Not too impressed with this bill. I love Children of Bodom and Megadeth but thats about it. I used to own Whoracle by In Flames and thought that was a good album but seeing them perform at Ozzfest a few years ago I was not impressed at all. Job for a Cowboy do nothing for me and I do not know of High on Fire. I will check this out if tickets are at a decent price.

1st of, YES I DO USE MY BRAIN, do YOU? & Just because Dave did all of that, that was diff than Ozzy, doesn't mean he didn't $ell out & is being just like Ozzy. The fact of the matter is, he's ONLY asking bands who are either NOT REAL Metal, or just going by who's ALREADY making the most amount of money, & who are already WELL established acts here in the USA! Much like SnozzeFest! Unlike PPUSA which gets bands that not everyone knows like for instance next year's line-up! Sorry, I didn't realize I needed to draw it all out for you! Now, who's not using their brains?:u-huh:

BTW, yes, the gimmick is Gigantour! DUH!!

Actually every band on Gigantour is metal, but are the mainstream of each(not counting High on Fire since totally ignorant on them).
