Gimme 3 albums that MOVE YOUR SOUL

Right now :

The Ocean - Fluxion & Aeolian
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain

To bring on a desert island? I don't know.

Dirge – And Shall the Sky Descend
A once-in-a-lifetime experience
In The Woods… – Omnio
The album that turned my take on musical enjoiyment upside down
Comus – First Utterance
Doomcifer worship eternal

I second whoever said Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven. Genesis's Foxtrot is ungodly amazing, even if the first half of the record isn't nearly as earth shattering as the second. But overall, where the uplift of the soul is concerned, I'm going with my favorite album ever, Misplaced Childhood by Marillion.

I think I could guessed you'd list those three.

There are others to be sure, but those three albums will always have a place near the top of the plateau of emotions for me. I can rarely make it through them without building up to few tears at some point. There is a difference between favorite albums and albums that "move your soul", those three are on both lists.

GodSpeed You! Black Emperor-F#A#(infinity symbol)
Mono- Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined
Agalloch- The Mantle

ooo The Sham Mirrors is a good one too. Listened to it for the first time in a while today.

Bloody brilliant list! Even if I prefer Antennas and You are There...

An album that moves my soul? Well, to be honest the best is always, without a doubt, that little fucker you have to wrestle into a corner and beat the shit out of until you like it. Hands down. In addition, a moving album is one that is impossible to listen to in spurts. For me, if I put in a CD that truly does something for me, it's from start to finish. Even if I want to listen to a single track, it's impossible because I fall in love with the CD all over again. Unfortunately, what's moving to me is, for the most part, completey boring to everyone else. However, I'll give it a shot and maybe you'll enjoy these (even though you've probably heard them all)

Insomnium- Since the Day It all Came down
Seriously, these guys are the fucking saviors of melodeath. I picked this up hoping it would keep me busy until Dark Tranquillity put forth new material, but it has surpassed my Gothenburg saviors. Tons of acoustic guitars and the likes.
Insomnium- Disengagement

Alice In Chains- Jar of Flies
Amazing acoustic work. Hey, maybe you haven't heard of it...
Alice In Chains- Rotten Apple

Wintersun- s/t
Side project of Ensiferum front man (now main project) Really rejuvinates melodeath with this release. A ton of great melodies and one of the few bands left in Finland capable of using a slow emotional solo
Wintersun- The Death and the Healing
Wintersun- Beautiful Death
I also hate giving you just one sample of the CD, because these truly deserve to be heard in their entirety. Wow, I guess that's all I can really think of that you might not have heard.

Obvious ones you've probably heard:
Opeth- The Ghost Reveries
Agalloch- The Mantle
Dark Tranquillity- Damage Done
Dark Tranquillity- The Gallery
Summoning- Oath Bound

^Let me know if any of those are unfamiliar

Honorable Mentions-

Insomnium- In the Halls of the Waiting
Really great, but a few weak tracks. Amazing for a debut and as you can see, I think they've improved. Still in my top 10.

In Flames- Soundtrack to Your Escape
What the fuck? Did he seriously just say that? Yes, I did. I like this and I think it's a good release. Everyone thinks I'm a shithead for it, but I think there are quite a few good songs on here, but not enough to make me have a religious experience while listening. Of course, Anders is pretty shitty, but I can still get by.

Also people, it'd probably be a good idea to put a link in your rec's and write a little something about it. After all, these are albums that MOVE YOUR SOUL!!!

Let me know what you think man :kickass:

Oh, and don't flame me for liking "shitty" stuff.

Haha, this was me reading your post:

"Insomnium....the saviors of melodeath": I've heard this said a thousand times but I'm intrigued, so I consider clicking the link....but then the following catches my eye....

"Wintersun - s/t": :zombie: ...

"Opeth - Ghost Reveries"..... :zombie:

And this was all BEFORE you even got to the In Flames bit. :zombie:

Oh well, I'm not flaming, just observing, but carry on. :)

This is pretty much just a "name your favourite albums" thread, for me at least, since I guess that is what I look for in an album most of the time. Well, for an album to become an all-time favourite anyway.

Songs of Moors and Misty Fields
Pale Folklore
Stormcrowfleet

ding ding we have a winnar

I agree with this list, and yet, I wouldn't consider those my favoUrite albums (except maybe for the Empyrium).

I do think there's some distinction between fave albums and those that move your soul.

Just sayin'.

Well, as I said, I was trying to only speak for myself. And it happens that the albums which I consider my VERY favourite also happen to "move my soul". But you're right I guess, since other albums which are surely top 20 material don't necessarily.

Brahms Symphony No. 1 (Abbado/Berliner)
Tschaikowsky Symphony No. 6 (Bernstein/New York)
Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss/Tenhi - Kauan

But you made it sound like you were speaking on behalf of everyone and I felt this underlying desire to challenge you to a duel so I e-slapped you with a whie glove. En garde!
