Going to buy new ProTools, for Mac but

I have used ProTools LE 8. But my new OSX, does not support my current version of ProTools. So I need to buy a new one.

I was shocked to learn that ProTools 10 cost about 900 USD, where I live!!

Is there some lighter version available, similar to ProTools 8 LE, that I can get instead of the full version?

Also, I was looking at ProTools 11, but it seems like it is not available until early next year?

Did you try installing it? I'm on Lion, which isn't supposed to be compatible with PTLE8. But my copy of PTLE8 works fine on it.

No did not try. What version of OSX Lion do you have?

It seems like it is possible to upgrade from ProTools LE to ProTools 11, for 399 USD.
But I must admit, it is a little confusing.

It also seems to require iLok2, and I would assume that is some kind of a hardware, not possible to download from the internet?

Yes. It's $50 and holds licenses for various software and plugins. All of Steven Slates plugs are authorized by them, for example.

Would prefer to find some lighter version, do not need the full version, if it could save me some cash.
