:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

The Powers Of The Universe Did Sire A Son
He Was Baptized By
Fire, Water, Earth And Sky
From Darkness He Rose Up In Triumph
To Ascend The Throne Of Light
And He Alone Shall Forever Be Known
As The King Of Kings

I enter this world
Born under a sign of Infinite light
Here I shall dwell I now understand
All that I am shall live in thy command

Voices of victory all shout and proclaim
The kingdom of glory is mine
The rays of the will are a prophecy filled
I’m the lord of the day and the night
I’ve nothing to sell but the power of hell
My armies of fire await
I’m here to be paid for the pact that was made
My payment can never be late

Chorus
Crack The Earth Gods Of Thunder
Man And Beast Will Be Torn Asunder
Into The Fight
I Own The Right
To Be The King Of Kings

My enemies rise and look to the skis
They pray I will never appear
Their life has no meaning
Awake they are dreaming
They live in a castle of fear
I summon the demons that live in the wind
As my chariot drives in the storm
With the hot blood of battle
I wait in my saddle
I live and I’ll die by the sword

Chorus

All the days of his life he walked without fear
All whose lives he touched
Were made better for knowing him
As he returned goodness with good
So too his justice and retribution were unfailing

As my sword is my soul

Then let all who stand before me know

I bring a storm and magic wind

The kingdom of the kings

I summon the demons that live in the wind
As my chariot drives in the storm
With the hot blood of battle
I wait in the saddle
I live and I’ll die by the sword

Crack The Earth Gods Of Thunder
Man And Beast Will Be Torn Asunder
Into The Fight
I Own The Right
To Be The King Of Kings

I have been a manowar fan since 1992, and you only have rahvin to blame. :p

A thought i'm having: Honestly, i don't think anyone really cares about what some random UM member is listening to at some given point in time (plus it's unlikely that they're still listening to that song by the time their post is read, unless they listen to it 584067387686 times in a row). I have seen occasional mini-converations about a song, band or upcoming album, but i believe the conversations (and the thread in general) would be far more interesting if we posted which song we are listening to and why we like that song (or why we dislike it, in case we're not listening voluntarily, or even "i don't know why i like it, i just do", in the worst of cases).

Just a thought.

ha, close the thread if you don't like it.

what? you can't close the thread? ha. hahahaha. loser.

nah, i'm kidding, i'm kidding. just participating in the punch-the-newbie exercise now because i was late the first time. sorry and welcome.

@rahvin: stop listening to that stuff now and go back to manowar!

Haha. Thanks. :)

You seem to be good friends with rahvin. Tell him to give me mod powers and i'll show you how i can close the thread. ;)

For example, NP Entwine - Time of despair. I like this song because the music is just amazing (like a lot of stuff by that band.. too bad about the lyrics) and because the very beginning reminds me somewhat of some Enya song i used to listen to years ago.

i'll give you a serious answer since you seem interested in my job. ;)

broadly speaking, i agree with you. there is little to no point in having long lists of personal and passing things on what should be a discussion board. but just go ahead and try to take these threads away from the users. bitter scorn is the tip of the iceberg of what you're gonna have to face. i pride myself in having managed to kill (without resorting to mod powers) other examples of meaningless listing: popular threads in chat forums, such as ones where everybody adds a word, or mentions a band, or has precious "now wearing" moments, have never even appeared here, and short was the life of a befuddling "now eating" thread. but try to imagine users from all of um dropping by all day only to report that they were enjoying a muffin, and i bet your depressed writings on your web page are already getting more depressed.

we also managed to turn the "now feeling" thread - a typical repository of the following sentence structure: "nf: :erk:" - in a somewhat interesting, though in my opinion slightly creepy, counselling arena for the dissatisfied.

so a thread like this one remains as a tribute to a style of online interaction that has certainly got old and tedious pretty fast, but can still lure the occasional lurker in, can sometimes make me slap my forehead and say "d'oh! i forgot that record was gonna come out!", and so on.

What's the matter with the clothes I'm wearing?
"Can't you tell that your tie's too wide?"
Maybe I should buy some old tab collars?
"Welcome back to the age of jive.
Where have you been hidin' out lately, honey?
You can't dress trashy till you spend a lot of money."
Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound
Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me

What's the matter with the car I'm driving?
"Can't you tell that it's out of style?"
Should I get a set of white wall tires?
"Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile?
Nowadays you can't be too sentimental
Your best bet's a true baby blue Continental."
Hot funk, cool punk, even if it's old junk
It's still rock and roll to me

Oh, it doesn't matter what they say in the papers
'Cause it's always been the same old scene.
There's a new band in town
But you can't get the sound from a story in a magazine...
Aimed at your average teen

How about a pair of pink sidewinders
And a bright orange pair of pants?
"You could really be a Beau Brummel baby
If you just give it half a chance.
Don't waste your money on a new set of speakers,
You get more mileage from a cheap pair of sneakers."
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways
It's still rock and roll to me

What's the matter with the crowd I'm seeing?
"Don't you know that they're out of touch?"
Should I try to be a straight 'A' student?
"If you are then you think too much.
Don't you know about the new fashion honey?
All you need are looks and a whole lotta money."
It's the next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways
It's still rock and roll to me

Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound
Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me

NP: Billy Joel - its still rock and roll to me

Actually, I quite like this thread. After a while you start noticing who has similar taste than you do, and whenever he/she is listening to something new, I may get curious and download it myself. As to commenting on what song you're listening to- well, everyone is of course free to do that already, yet eventually all the answers might start looking the same, I think.

At least its less creepy than the relationships thread I used to have :p

And I second Hitori's reasons for liking this thread. It's also just fun to see a NP and wonder aloud how someone could like that music, or somesuch :)

rahvin: You can pass the job on to me whenever youget tired of it. ;) Now, seriously: I’ve seen (and a few times even started) quite a few interesting discussion threads. I believe (many) people on UM are capable of carrying on discussions that make more sense than this kind of thread. Yes on the thing about being reminded of a record, but other than that the only point i see in keeping this kind of threads is to prevent UM from becoming like Infoceptor: a forum with 4736957 idle members and 2 or 3 people who post once a month. Of course, none of us would like precious UM to become such a horrible thing, but i believe that to aspire to “usefulness” or “transcendence” (for lack of better words) is a noble cause. Of course, you’re the man in charge here. If you believe keeping NP threads and such is a necessary thing, i’ll respect that decision and i won’t try to change it (unless the forum suddenly becomes flooded with such threads and nothing interesting remains). For my part, all i can do is do what i suggested and smile to myself because there’s at least one person (you) who thinks these threads make no sense.

Hitori: Similar to what rahvin said about being reminded of a record. True, sometimes “what’s your favorite depressing song?” threads help, and i agree on what you said about finding out who has similar tastes as you. And yes, i hadn’t thought about all the reasons becoming the same; there is the risk that eventually every post will become “NP [insert song name here] because i like it very much”, which would bring the thread back to what it is now. I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks for pointing it out.

Kov: plintus just illustrated what you said in the most perfect way. ;)

So, to go on with the thread’s point, if any: NP:
- Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the infinite sadness
- Evanescence - My immortal (instrumental version)
- Staind - Epiphany
- Athlete - Wires << one of the best depressive songs ever made
In the mood for slow, sad songs. Not feeling too great, and longing for a quiet evening by myself.

@undo control: what you say certainly makes sense, but you might be slightly mistaken about the nature of my role here: it is not to shape the community to my liking, as this would probably alienate some, and this is not the official rahvin forever discussion board. i keep the peace and (try to) make this place accessible to everyone who means no harm and is not a gigantic idiot. it's the users' responsibility to do something worthwhile with it. i'm going to authoritatively oppose the obvious: gratuitous racial jokes, midget porn, spam, appreciation for the latest metallica :)p), but that's more or less it. passing judgement over the quality of this board's output besides the things that do not belong to realm of decency is dangerous and ultimately beyond the scope of what the band wants me to do here.

but thanks for your interest and opinions.

I know that. Did something i said sound like i thought your role was to shape it to your liking? I'm sorry, i didn't mean it that way. =)
