hi, Im looking to buy a new preamp for about 400dollars, and was thinking of
ART DIO PreampSystem MkII. ANyone know if its any good or can recommend anything else thats good allaround for bas, guitar, vox :) ?

Thanks!

funny, checked the link, they mention it and that it's a "non issue..." so just use cables as short as possible. I heard good things about those units and that the savings in price come from unbalanced connectors.
I have an FMR RNC in mint condition for sale if anyone is interested.

+1 for the rnp. great preamps for the money. they work well on pretty much everything as well. you can easily get them new for 475.00. i will continue to use them even after i get better pres. the rnp is a couple notches above everything in their price range($230ish per channel). i think you would get more mileage out of the fmr compared to almost anything art makes preamp wise.

So, if I have a Presonus Digimax LT preamp, which I literally use to track everything, is that bad? I mean, would my recordings audibly benefit if I were to invest in another preamp or two, just so one element of the mix will have different preamp coloration than another? I just don't have enough experience with preamps to decide for myself whether or not I should buy more of them or not...and if I were to buy more preamps, I wouldn't want to buy total cheapy crap so I would end up spending a good chunk of money! I absolutely trust that more expensive preamps sound better than cheap ones, but I just want to be able to hear some kind of difference for myself to justify the money spent, you know?

I think the listening sessions might be a good place to prove with your ears some mics and mic preamps. Also in the list the RNP, too bad they used it only for a bass DI and a drum machine. Anyway, a good resource, lots of gear from cheap-but-great-for-the-money to so-expensive-it-hurts...

Aaron, have you seen this thread ?

Man i cant wait, i just bought this piece yesterday should get it next week!!!

Those of you that use a firepod how would i route this and bypass the firepods peamp section? would i use balanced (input 1 and 2 ) on the back of the firepod?

To your question, search the forum for some thread about comparing like 5 preamps, all different price ranges, and when I listened I honestly could hardly , if at all hear any difference between pre's costing 100 bucks or 1500 bucks. Plus the pres on the digimax are really nice anyway, presonus makes some dope stuff for a really low cost.

I saw that thread, but never listened due to my sweet high tech dialup connection! Haha. I should invest the time to listen.
So, even if I can hardly tell a difference between one preamp and another on just one source, would my recordings audibly benefit if I were to invest in another preamp or two, just so one element of the mix will have different preamp coloration than another? Or will that difference be equally pronounced as well?
