Graveland

I prefer Following the Voice of Blood, myself. But no doubt, Graveland is an important band in metal.

However, Graveland seems to be love 'em or hate 'em. Lots of people love 'em, the others like Dimmu Borgir.
I don't really get Graveland myself, from what i've heard of their later stuff it seems to be going for a similar aesthetic to summoning and nokturnal mortum, am I missing something?(as i love both bands i mentioned but graveland isn't clicking)

graveland uses military drum patterns for a reason. it helps with the battle field atmosphere and adds an epic feel which is what puts their music above the rest of that style

I like pretty much all the Graveland I've heard but nothing strikes me as flat out brilliant. I've listened to Thousand Swords dozens upon dozens of times, and I think I'm convinced it just isn't as phenominal as everyone makes it out to be. An effective album no doubt, just not up to the hype.

I'd go as far as to say that Thousand Swords rivals the best of the best in metal on just about every level, from drumming through to production.

Its not even one of the best black metal albums ever. I would give it a 4 out of 10. It just sounds very very amateur.

You're far too unfamiliar with the larger Black Metal scene to judge efficiently, BMT.

Thousand Swords is certainly a highly original release, and for that it deserves credit. It does drag on in parts and is best absorbed as an atmospheric experience than a Black Metal album though. I ultimately find the majority of his earlier work and Dawn Of Iron Blades (most likely Fire Chariot Of Destruction as well) more enjoyable than Thousand Swords.

No I just think that alot of Kvlt Black Metallers forget the point of music. Im familiar with it, I just dont like it very much. I listen to bands like Immortal, Marduk, Emperor, Mayhem and alot of the more well know stuff like that because I think it is musically superior to shit like burzum or graveland.

Burzum is one of the most popular Black Metal bands ever. Graveland is also very popular. Graveland is easily one of the best as well as one of the most accessible acts in the realm of Black Metal today.

I know that, I just used those as a general example of bands I don't like very much.

i agree with you for the most part. a lot of the true kvlt stuff is pretty terrible. the odd band does somethin really interesting. but for the most part, bm bands like Emperor totally rule them in any way other than obscurity.

Don't worry little boy, your taste will mature.

Not better than "In the Nightside Eclipse".

Agreed. Aside from that, people just argue with BMT because they have seen everyone flame him at some point. He hasn't said anything blatantly stupid in this whole thread (nor has he mentioned anything about being black). I too think Graveland is massively overrated and Thousand Swords can be as boring as fuck at points. People don't have to appreciate minimalistic background noise if they don't want to and the fact that you listen to Graveland for whatever you get out of it, makes you no better than someone who listens to Emperor's "Anthems" for enjoyable riffs.
