Graveland

I mean just the thought of a hick Black guy with a faded Cowboys from Hell Pantera shirt running around with big muscles is hilarious in it's own right. The only thing funnier would be if he wore a Burzum shirt. I'd pay money to see that.

Where are these big muscles that everyone speaks of? The one pic I seen of him he was wearing dark sleeves.

Those were sleeves right?

I happen to be one of the "true kult fans" and to love burzum, but i still think Graveland is boring(especially Celtic Winter. Thousand swords is a nice listen sometimes but really not more). I also think it is inaccessible.

About "musical-quality-bm"... I rate Emperor about as high as Graveland.
Nice sometimes, but actually boring.
Strangely, Emperor induces the same feeling in me as Nightwish (i say that without any judgement) .

Personally, I'd rate Graveland above the majority, if not all, of the classic Norwegian acts. I've yet to find a black metal album that matches the epic scope, majesty, and beauty of Following the Voice of Blood.

Burzum, Emperor, Immortal, Mayhem and the bit I've heard from Darkthrone can't match that album.

Meh, Following... is cool but it has structural flaws. Darken doesn't seem to realise that his music isn't built to be repetitive in the manner that certain other bands are.

Good old Mr. Fudali will never reach the point of the genius level Quorthon had, but he never give up to try. Gravelands "Thousand swords" album reminds me to listen to "Hammerheart" and "Twilight of the god" again....

I'm very much pleased that Rob Darken has been taken up by Viking-era Bathory, considering the quality of his last few releases.

There is no Black Metal album more epic than Hvis Lyset Tar Oss. For pure raw black metal, Transilvanian Hunger can't be beat.

I like Thousand Swords a lot. And the drumming is perfect for that album.

Graveland and Bathory are more epic than Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, and there are a shitload of pure raw Black Metal albums, including other albums by Darkthrone, that beat Transilvanian Hunger. In my opinion.

Yeah, that's what most people think when someone states an opinion without adding a warning label.

You're right though. Hvis Lyset Tar Oss isn't epic at all. Its totally introverted and reflective. Now Weakling, thats epic.

What we call "epic" is merely the exploration of the space between our dreams and our conscious life. The epic is that which invites us to enter the dream state while fully conscious. Epic is, in a word, Burzum.

Nah, epic is grandiose, all-inclusive, dynamic, larger than life, that kinda thing. Your description fits Burzum well, but that's not what I think of with "epic" music.
