Hello. Firstly, I'm new to the forum, so let me introduce myself: I'm Whammywon.

Anyways, I am an aspiring metal producer, and I have a question on what could be done to help acuqire a certain guitar sound.

I'm from Texarkana TX, and there is another band from here that has an awesome guitar tone imo. Their myspace is http://www.myspace.com/silencehero. Also, please don't accuse me of spamming, because this IS NOT my band. But the guitar tone on their newer recordings is thick, chunky, and great. I was wondering what you would think could help acquire type this sound from my recordings?

Key songs are: "Our Faith is the Weapon Most Feared", and "Fight To Stay Alive."

Just some 411 on what I know about their recordings:
1. Produced and engineered by a white rap producer (which explains the overuse of auto-tune)
2. He uses Nuendo
3. And I believe they pretty much just use Crate amps.

So, any ideas?

Thanks, in advance.

Yeah, but the distortion, imo, just blends beautifully with the rest of the mix, I know its surely mastered and all, but that tone is far superior to the tone that our local metal engineer gets. The guy that most of the local metal bands record with sounds really dry, and not as big and in your face... idk... Either way, mr. rap man gets my vote for best local recording.

I think this sucks.

Bass is to loud.
Cymbols sound like shit.
Kick is just about as wrong as you can go for this genre.
Snare sounds like shit.
If you REALLY listen to the guitars (especially the leads) they are just kind of okay, but who cares because the bass is muddying them up so much you can't really hear the tone anyhow.

Sorry OP this is not a good recording in my opinion.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW is that a cheesy logo  Of course it's hard to judge recording quality on a myspace player, but I agree the bass is too loud/guitars too low, and they feel kinda thin

This mix sounds like shit
with good production I think this band could go far in the mainstream meta/rock world.
it's all arranged really really fucking nicely, I will give them that.

Yep, mix is terrible. The guitars are thin, bass guitar is too loud, kick drum has no attack and doesn't cut through the mix, and the cymbals are incredibly harsh to the point of fatiguing. Song sounds pretty good though.

sorry, but I also have to second that.
only listening on headphones now but it really does sound terrible.
no definition whatsoever. pumping like crazy....the "kickdrum" just seems to be some 808 sample.
Bass is big, true...guits are pissweak though.

low-end is sucking the life outta this. big black hole. it could be a lot better without it.

beyond that, mix in general needs help. a lot of unbalance.

Wow... I can't believe you want to get that kind of sound. The mix is _really_ bad - I can only hear the vocals and some of the drums. The cymbals sound out of phase or something. And the guitars? Nothing special there...

This mix is pretty dreadful, it's like a highly polished turd

The guitars do have an acceptable sound though, nothing too special though. The bass is mixed so bad that it doesn't compliment it properly though.

As for the cymbals, seeing as it's myspace it's hard to really tell what's going on there

autotune :Puke:

yes, terrible mix, but no one has mentioned the snare sound. HORRIBLE. sounds like a cheaper version of St. anger (which by itself already sucks ass) I like these kind of bands, but that overprocessed first clean vox chorus sucks ass IMO. guitars are weak, kick drum sucks also, bass is too muddy. Really, sucks big time.

yeah while the overall sound is o.k nothing sounds great on its own, especially the guitars I think, they're weak as fuck!
