Well looks like im in the the market for a main rhythm axe since the Snakebyte's out of action.

Been looking at all sorts, mainly ESP....really like the sound of the Snakebyte which was EMG + Mahogany neck/body combo.

The Horizon's look similar spec but they are a little pricey...

Anybody have any suggestions for some immense tight chug machine monsters?

It will be pretty much a studio guitar since I don't have a "band".

:headbang:

Ran?

I saw a white Hetfield explorer copy made by them on ebay a while ago, it it looked fucking nuts.
They sound good on record too (onlast Vader, and Vogg has used them)

Yeah I checked out RAN and they said about 2k Euro's for a basic explorer. I would prefer to be able to play a similar model beforehand too.

The Fernandes looks cool as does the Eclipse...always have a thing with Les Paul style guitars, feel like the necks really short and its going to fall of my knee. I guess im just not used to it!

SG sounds with too much mids. I never liked it. Not too much metalheads use them.

What would you say about getting something like a recent Gibson Explorer and doing it up with EMG's?

Good sounding guitars? I've heard their '84 issues are shocking however.

Horizons are AWESOME guitars play and soundwise, but I they look a wee bit too "simple" for me.
But I think the body is alder and not mahagony, the neck is maple IIRC

Heared only good things about Gibson Explorers with EMG's, but Gibson has quality control problems since a few years I think, putting out sometimes shitty guitars for the price

Recently played an Explorer for the first time, feeled a bit strange but quite comfy

My ltd F-400 (mahagony and EMG81 all the way) is immense tight chugga chugga, but not as fat sounding as my Epi LP with EMG's...that one isnt as tight tho

Yeah the Horizon is still out of my price range and is as you say very "bland".

Yeah the EMG version has a alder body unlike the passive/floyd versions which have mahog bodys.

Im really GASSING for another explorer....ive seen those Gibson Explorer Gothic II'....oh my gob, wonderful! But they aren't made anymore and no doubt impossible to get hold of :(

Gibsons quality control has gone down aswell? FUUUUUU

yeah, the abalone stuff looks really ugly!
damn, i could swear that there is a simple black version with EMG's.

Checked the ESP page, seems they changed the woods on the horizons since my bands guitar player bought his a few years back...
Both versions on the page have mahagony body and maple neck now.
A pity, the older one sounds awesomely bright. Killer guitar for leads.

You allready have an explorer shaped ESP/ltd right?
EX or FX could also be an option if not

Yeah the gothic II looks a lot better than the first one

Yes I think I heared ppl complaining about the quality going downhill

I've got an old EX-351, still sounds killer. Not a fan of the shape and the neck dives to fuckery but ive had it for yearrrrs!

Im wondering about just dropping ESP an email and saying "are you going to sort the Snakebytes out?" if so when....then I might purchase another.

Depends if I can keep my money in my pocket or if something tasty comes up on Ebay any time soon!

If a second hand Gibson came up it would be an older one so it should be of good quality.

Prostetnic: Yeah ive got a C1 Hellraiser ive got for a different tuning....Schecters always have fret issues with me but alas it sounds totally killer. I just looked it up and low and behold the body and neck are both mahogany....if the woods so make some different im curious as to weather its what im hearing a little.

My C1 and EX are both maghogany neck/body and they are the best sounding guitars ive got. I did have a Jackson RR24 that sounded really nice too which was alder/maple neck so thats a little out of the rule.
