Greater of Two Evils

When I popped in the CD I was not expecting them to go note for note like on the originals. For the guitars and the vocals. I was surprised that they kept as true to the originals as they did. I mean the solo is back in Caught in a Mosh! How cool is that. I play lead guitar and I think Rob is a good guitar player. I didn't expact him to go note by note on the solo's. Let's face it. He's not Danny so you can't expect him to play the same solo. Man I remember Danny didn't even keep true to his own solo's live. I think Anthrax is so cool to even do a CD like this. Look at Metallica they butcher their songs live. Lars's half harted drumming and they take some of the best parts of the songs out! How shitty is that! As for the vocals I love John's voice. I think it would sound kind of corny to have all those high pitched vocals. And that's coming from a fan since 1987. I think the songs sound a lot meaner and heavier with John. But hey that's just my opinion.

I cannot believe you say that Dutchy!!!!! ^^^^

The crapiest song ever written???!!! WTF???!!! OK so maybe you don't like the song, but the crappiest song ever written???!!! Do you not get Britney Spears and American Idol shit played over in Holland??

BTW - I think KIITF fucking rules.

Here is my opinion about the new cd. I like it for what it is. I live recording with bush doing joey ere songs. I'm not sure that I would really like to here the band re-record all the old cd's with john singing though. Although, I would like to hear p.o.t. re-recorded with john singing. Listening to some of the songs, I did miss the high pitched joey screams. I also liked the heavier sounds and johns singing of other songs. This cd isn't ods gift to humanity but it pretty good. I bought it the day it came out (a best buy that actually had it) and it's still in the cd player. In short, it's worth buying and you should add it to you collection today if you haven't already. It is Anthrax after all!

For me, the first two songs nearly put me off the road and into the nearest hedge when I first heard them. I fucking creamed my smalls. Deathrider and Metal Thrashing Mad are awesome, and I reckon Rob's best playing on the album is on MTM.

I think John's vocals are awesome, and bring the songs right into the modern day, and it is great that they give a fuck about their fans to bring the album out. Charlie's drumming is also awesome. To throw as much double bass into those songs as he does is incredible. Lars Ulrich, you should be really ashamed of yourself. Charlie has just shown that he is an exceptional drummer, and the double bass in Panic and Gung-Ho is unreal. Scott's sound is phenominal on this record, probably the best sound that Anthrax have ever had, and the leads he plays I think are fantastic, for someone who doesn't usually take the lead role. Even Frank's bass rumbling in the background, and his background vocals in some of the songs is fantastic, and I for one am really gonna miss him. As for Rob. After listening to the songs on a "proper" sound system, they aren't all bad. The speakers in my car are fucked, and one of them doesn't work, so I'm not always getting the best sound out of the left side. I still think Dan Spitz is a better guitar player, and I still miss the hell out of him in the band. Rob is a great guitarist, but he ain't Dan. The band still rock my world, and with or without Dan, I'll still support them. Rob might not play the solos note for note, but trying to put a new twist on an old solo is always going to be very hard. You certainly can't fault his playing on WCFYA, and no doubt on the next studio album he'll be on top of his game again. I can't wait.

The only song I don't really think came out that well is Lone Justice.

John's vocals in the verses just sound wrong - but that's my only whinge! TGO2E rules overall!

KIITF is just fuckn heavy as FUCK!!! ... and I just love how you can hear John go Ooooh in the intro bit ... nice ... that song has a fuckn groove like no other.

AIR, NFL, Among ... all DESTROY!!

The drumming in Gung Ho ... is just planet crushing stuff!

ONE KILLER KILLER ALBUM

...and listen John isnt Joey and vice versa. I kinda like to look at these songs as a different slant rather than a better version. I love the originals and I love these versions.

I wish we had more stuff off POT though :| ... that tease at the end of NFL for Time gets me hard everytime!

What???
No ones gonna pick on Scott or Charlie's playing on the CD??? :loco:
I'm happy with the CD......still like the originals though. I have no need to compare them. They ALL ROCK

Gregadeth expressed his opinion and someone had the audacity (look that one up Buddy, it is on the "A" section of your dictionary) to call it the worst thread ever????? Ppppppffffffffftttttt. I applaud ya pal. I think it was actually a cooler "event" than a release, does that makes sense??? I guess I'm saying to me it wasn't a necessary cd, but it was a kick ass concept.

Charlie kicks ass on TGOTE but it's not nearly as good as what he does on WCFYA. It's almost like he takes the lead melody in some of those songs which is just fucking madness.

i'm just commenting on the fact that people seem like they're hoping for a straight-up, note-for-note cover of the original. it's not like i called you guys all faggots or stupid.

this is not actually the worst thread ever...

well i'll throw in my pennies here

i DID jizz my pants when i first heard this, the production is exactly what it should be, raw. the NEW madhouse intro is awesome. wanting to be surprised the first time i didnt follow the tracklist and when that intro started i was like wtf!?!?!?!?!? and creamed again when the madhouse riff started. the song selection, while not what I voted for, is amazing, because the songs are amazing and have been for upwards of 20 years

now for the bush rob talk. i didn't expect any solos to sound the same and was very pleased when i heard stuff i recognized and stuff i didn't. both works for me. rob is an amazing guitarist and this really shows how good anthrax truly are when they have 2 dedicated guitar players.

listen to panic w/ headphones and tell me the double solo doesn't rule

i have ALWAYS said that bush was better than joey, and i still stand by that. i will admit that there are certain times when i was thrown by the notes, esp lone justice and metal thrashing mad. i chalk this up to familiarity. we've had these songs upwards of 20 years. (ive had em for 14 now....jesus) so of course with a band like anthrax where you know every word and every riff etc, its gonna be different. even w/o the time (tangent: was the tease a set up for a live transition in the future? that would rule) and familiarity, i think these new versions rule.
and i stand by that. i love these versions, as well as the old ones. but its not 1987 anymore, THIS is anthrax, doing old school anthrax songs and they still rip. deathrider was on fistful, and now sounds like it could be at home on WCFYA, and i love that.

i love this record and hope they do another one

you guys are pretty harsh

I thought that Robs solos are lacking in tonal quality. Danny had those Mesa IIc+'s and they were godlike for his style. Robs tone sounds like an angry bee. Also scotts tone is lackng with those randalls. It dosent have the same chunk or slice.

The playing is great though, and its a great listen and highly recommended by me.
