Greater of Two Evils

I want to pick this CD. I saw Anthrax live in August 2003 and he did okay singing Joey's era tracks. I am curious to how he does on Misery Loves Company. He did okay doing some of the State of Euphoria era stuff live -- I can just imagine Thrax doing what Iced Earth did. Re-releasing their old albums with the current vocalist doing the tracks to see how he does. John added a darker tone to Anthrax when he joined so you can just imagine him pulling out the tracks that Joey made funny.

GOTE

9 out of 10. I would have rated it a bit lower but this version of NFL is a 13, Chief is God.....I am convinced.

(still p.o.'d ADI/Horror didnt make it)

John isnt Joey and vice versa. I kinda like to look at these songs as a different slant rather than a better version. I love the originals and I love these versions.

You nailed it with that one; I too love the originals as well as the remakes - they each have their own particular qualities that make them great, IMHO.
Anyways its ALL Anthrax, and I dig 'em, so how can I loose? :worship:

I like TGOTE, Joeys voice never did anything for me, and its worth buying for Be all.. alone I like robs solos, and people who think he fuked up need to pull their head of of their ass and listen. apart from I am the Law, I agree there, but that song doesnt need a solo, as they prove live. And death rider just kicks ass!

Why's noone mentioning how good the new intro to 'NFL' is? is way the best ever. If they got rid of 'Belly', 'In My World' & 'Be All...' and added 'Finale', 'One World' & 'Starting a Posse' then this would have been the album i could die to.

It's a good album.
Defintely the weakest of the Bush era, but it's not a fully blown produced one either.
It kind of feels like it's something they wanted to do AND something to hold us over until the next album.
I like more songs, than I dislike.

My two cents (and with the Canadian dollar on the rise, it's worth almost 1.6 cents now):

First, overall impression: There isn't a weak track IMO There isn't anything on this album that blows me away either, but as a whole this is a solid kick-ass album. Certainly better than MOMD, and after a few days, I say it's better than WCFYA (I know I'll get a lot of arguments on that one, but I found that album too unfocussed with a lot of weak tracks)

Now, the John vs. Joey argument: John proves once again that he is the superior choice for Anthrax's music. He fits the music better, he gives the band a heavier sound, and is much more pleasant to my ears. Yes, the vocals are raw on this album, as is everything else...what do you expect in one take? Joey sounded way shittier live while John doesn't lose very much at all. This album sounds great, raw as it is, and the louder you crank the volume, the better it sounds. (When I first put it in, Antonio started smiling, bacging his head, and gave the horns...I didn't even have to teach him that  )

I think most of these songs are an improvement, and mainly because of John. Songs I never really cared for before (like Belly of the Beast, Keep It In the Family, and don't shoot me for saying this one: I Am the Law), I like these songs now...in this version anyway. Probably the only song from the Joey area that I still listen to regularly is Caught In a Mosh (one of my all time favs), and as such is about the only song where I would argue which version is better...but the new version still fucking rocks.

And for all the old-timers that say that Anthrax has sold out or aren't as heavy (not on this board, but you see them elsewhere) (also, I never saw where these arguments have come from...aside from WCFYA, new Thrax sounds a helluva lot heavier than the older stuff), GOTE is proof that Anthrax has not sold out or gone softer.
