Greetings & News from Sun Caged!!!

Greetings Nevermore fans,

I want to take this moment to try and connect with you. If you already know of Sun Caged then this is a notice that the wait for the second album will soon be at an end! Artemisia will be released by Lion Music on March 23, 2007. If you have not heard of us yet, then this is an invitation to check us out!

I know this may seem somewhat “spam-ish” but this is not random. I’m taking the time to write this and post it here because I believe you will find our music to your liking. Let’s face it, the way the music industry is in this day and age, a band has to create its own success and there’s only one true way to do that: create public awareness, i.e. get your music heard by the people who matter: music fans!

We are essentially a new band again. Sure, our sound is still relevant to fans of the first album, but there is a new chemistry completely its own as well. Melodic and moody at times, but still plenty of hard hitting action…and of course mind-bending instrumental dexterity (don’t take that as arrogant self-praise, this is the singer talking, and I’m just giving you my opinion of the great instrumentals, lol)

We’ve been off the radar for a while, but Sun Caged has big plans for 2007. We’ve already got some great shows lined up including a cd release party in Helmond, NL (March 23rd) and a support slot for the mighty Spock’s Beard in May!

So please stop by our page at http://www.myspace.com/suncaged We have brand new pics and artwork up, plus a full album teaser, and one complete (8+ min) song for you to hear! (http://www.suncaged.com is still operational, but needs to be redesigned, so right now it’s just has some links and the album cover)

And finally, one more note: Our friends at http://www.thedividingline.com internet radio are going to debut the 10 minute mini epic “Bloodlines”. That’ll be Feb. 15th during The Rogue’s Gallery (which starts at 8:00pm Pacific time) and again on Feb. 16th during Epic Prog (which starts at 6:00pm Pacific time).

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and we hope to see you real soon!!!

Sincerely,

Paul Adrian Villarreal, (and on behalf of Marcel, Roel, Rene and Roel too)

Sure, "to spam, or not to spam" that is the age old question right? But what's the alternative? Sit around and wait for people to come to us? I don't presume to think that even our biggest fans have time to think about us every day...and if we wait until those people do have that thought, and it happens too late, then we have missed a chance to connect, right? There are also reviews and, of course, SHOWS, but again...people who haven't thought of us for a while might not even think to look for a review or an upcoming show if they don't know the album's coming out...

In an ideal situation you have a major label and a marketing department to take care of public awareness, but our label isn't that big, so a lot of it is up to us. So that's why I made the decision to go ahead and surf through some forums that I actually felt (like I said in my post) would be comprised of people who may like our music. I know that some people have an automatic adverse reaction to this kind of stuff so I just tried to be as polite as I could about it.

What else can I say?...oh, except for, yeah, Marcel does f'n rip! ;)

btw, for the record, the first response I got to this type of post was of the "...awesome news! Thanks for posting this..." variety, so apparently the jury is still out on the issue. ;)

This album better have something to do with Artemisia, a prostitute from a comedy of Aristophanes, otherwise I'm not touching this album.

hell, if someone released an album called "Xanthias" for that matter, I'd by highly disappointed if it didn't focus around a certain slave carrying around a phallus for the rural Dionysia while his master Dicaeopolis is hilariously fending off the Acharnians.

It is spam. Imagine if every band started clogging every other band's forum with rants about their newest releases.

It is too random you posted the damn thing on several other boards. I'm all for pimping ones music, if you've been to the board more then once.

House of lies/10

Edit-Oops not you stormo i meant topic creater, too lazy to fix that

See what happened was is I didnt want to find the exact quote I was responding to in that big wall of text so I quoted stormo thinking it would quote the topic creator but it didnt

Hello, one last time...I can tell my post didn't fly too well here, and I don't mean to cause bad feelings, so I won't bug you more after this.

Just wanted to say (again) that my post wasn't random, really. 1) I went to a few forums of bands I was familiar with, and felt had some similarities with us; 2) as you can see, I did so with the intent of following the progress of the thread and participating in discussion. Yes, I did copy and paste to save myself some typing, but in most cases I still took the time to at least adjust and personalize each one.

And to the original critique (what if everyone did this...clogging forums etc) I say this: I see your point, but at the same time, I have to admit that a huge quantity of bands that I now know of and love came via web forums etc, and yes some of those even by way of one time posters.

Bottom line is, imho there is a respectful way to do it, and that is what I aimed for. Also I have found that many people share my opinion that the way the music industry is today, people who like the kind of music we do are in the minority, and by sticking together and supporting eachother we stand a better chance of keeping it alive and strong. And, in general, I have to say that because of this overall opinion within the prog community, many people are receptive to the kind of post I made.

I accept that not everyone feels that way, and I don't blame them, I only hope that you can at least see why I feel it's worth a try.

About the "wall of words" comment...sorry, that's just me. ...even on forums which I do post regularly I tend to be overly verbose...it's just because I like to try and make myself clear to avoid being mistaken. (case in point, this current post ;)

Finally, no, Artemisia is not about the prostitute in an Aristophanes play  The reference is two-fold. First Artemis serves as a kind of allegory for themes relating to the death of my Mother. (beside being a hunter and forest Goddess, Artemis was also assumed to be the cause of non-violent death, whether by disease or unexplained causes, in some ancient Greek traditions) and secondly, the technical name for the plant used to make Absinthe is called artemisia absinthium which is something I just thought was cool.

Again, no offense intended, and hope there aren't too many ill feelings.

regards,

-Paul
