Guitar Bus Uses?

Gonna hear a lot of vcc and vtm, I recently tried the free softtube plugin just a touch and it made the guitars pop/sit just right.

I do quite a lot of EQ on the bus as I don't have massively different tones L/R so it makes more sense to do it there.

If you want to try something new,
Put a compressor on the guitar bus side chained from the snare.
Fast attack and release 4:1 ratio hitting about 3db gain reduction.
Now the guitars will duck for each snare hit, letting you put the snare a little bit lower gaining you headroom for when you get to mastering.
Every DB you shave off while mixing means less limiting during mastering so ducking the guitars 3db while mixing means the mix will pump less later.
Obviously the guitars will pump slightly when you do this, but this is preferable to the whole mix (including the guitars) pumping later.

I do this pretty much every mix regardless of the type of music.
I usually duck the bass with kick side chained for non metal stuff but for metal I just cut a hole in the bass guitar at 60-80 to prevent the low end "stacking"

Good idea, will try asap. Thanks man!

Saturation (VCC and Reelbus), general EQ shaping (LP/HP, cuts for vocals, mud cleanup) and usually a multiband comp smoothing out the low mids if palm mutes are too boomy. I haven't yet found a compressor I really like on guitar busses, but experiment with it occasionally.

I recently bought a recapped Urei 535, same as Lasse have and got I got GAS after i read that Michael Wagener used it on guitars too. They are cheap in the US market but are a rare find here in Sweden. I like them very much,
very gritty and nice high's. Definitely got some nice hardware vibe to it. So if you guys find one, buy it!

I use SDDR or VCC or Kramer MPX on guitar buss. Often PTEQ, sometimes Waves SSL EQ and C4 if needed. All plugins are dual mono. I'm far from a killer guitar tone maker tho :D
