Uhhhm, Other.

Not extremely complex but not stupidly simple riffs and somewhat complex but not shredding beyond recognition and the riffs should ne played somewhere between 140-240 Bpm

My favorite type of riffs are the ones that are so technical they loose all meaning. Like Crimson Massacre.

Depends.
I like the type of riffs that sounds "rich" and "bright" (Bolt Thrower, Lamb Of God (yes!), Perimeter, Burzum). And I like that kind of "dry" sound like Cadaver, Meshuggah, Mortifera. And the presence of solos is great of course, but again - it depens... When you assess the guitar sound you probably look at the whole complex of different aspects and details in certain music.

In general shredding is not significant or anything more than a tool to warm up your fingers so than you can write music with competence. Hitting a few notes to create something non typical is harder to do than scale runs that just show technique and something you learn. That just demenstrates you know something. This does not demenstrate your skills for being able to write something purely based on your own mind. I think the reason why a lot of people do not shred is because it's actually so basic compared to actually getting across music based on feeling and emotion which is much harder than playing fast. You should shred for 2 hours throw it all out and then make your own music. I do like guitar solos do not get me wrong but it's much harder to make a solo with the right notes that is original than a solo with a lot of notes. After a few years of playing anyone can go up and down the neck on their instrument. At a certain piont it's about hitting right notes, even if it's three. More is not better. Just the way you convey something will demenstrate you can play if it's so moving and meaningful. That alone starts to show how dumb shredding is when you can do more with less.

Everybody loves solos, but I would have to go with brutal riffs+no solos. That is just what I would prefer if I had to pick a few out of a lineup that were all average, but of course if something is more well done I would pick that.

and Eyes of the Insane, you were right. That Cancer album is a classic. :kickass:

I chose heavy/complex riffage, though I really prefer there to be a certain amount of groove to the riffage. I need something to grab my attention and then it's a lot easier to absorb the whole atonal, polyphonic thing. This is why I prefer Nile over Origin, for example.
