I've noticed a lot of people reccomending that guitars should be mixed 100% and 80% to the left and right in the stereo spectrum? Is that entirely necessary? Wouldn't it be possible to, say, put the kickdrums at 100% on each side (under the assumption of double-kick, of course), then put the first two guitar tracks at 80% on each side of the stereo spectrum, put in snare and toms at 65%, then bass (if double tracked. If not, throw closer to the center of the stereo spectrum) at 50%, and then the last layer of guitars at 40% on each side? Or would it just sound like mud?

I don't think it would sound like mud exactly, but just try it: think about it, having an off-center snare would get old after about 10 seconds if you think about it. ...same with kicks--just try it and you'll see....

Works great when things get really fast (try 265 bpm). A bomb blast will literally rip your head off.

Having it in stereo like that did make it cut into the mix a lot more... i'll try doing it with something really fast soon for a laugh hehe
