Id like to no if there are any guitar players on this board either begineers or if your shit hot on guitar it dosent matter.

Do you play any saxon songs ? If so which ones ?

Or which other songs by other bands do you play ?

Id like saxon to release there own guitar tab book for sale in the shops with a bucket load of there best songs on there from 1979 to the present day what do you saxon guitar fans think about that ?

I no there is some saxon tab on the net but not that much compared to some bands and its not all spot on, but some of it is.

Tell us what you think or anything you want to add about playing saxon songs on guitar.

I play bass and have done for a number of years, I wouldnt say Im the most proficient of bassists but I can play a mean Hold On, Eagle has landed, Princess of the Night, 747 and Militia Guard. More for my own enjoyment really, I specialise in playing Ramonesy style punk rock, which is a piece of piss and gives me plenty of room for dashing about the stage and singing like a madman.

I play. Have done so for over 20 years now, but I'm still no good though. Just play for fun home alone, never played in a band. That's why a year ago I got this little palmtop studio with drums and bass to be my band. So now I just plug in my Samuraii (Gibson copy), put on some bass and drums and play some Saxon riffs or just come up with some riffs of my own, and should I come up with something that actually sounds nice I can record it with my little palmtop studio. I like to record a background riff or some background chords, got four tracks for it, to the bass and drums and then just play my own solo or melody to that. I usually don't play complete songs, by Saxon or any other band, but play some of the riffs, or just play anything out of my head.
I find it very relaxing and "liberating" even though I'm not very good. Especially when you are stressed or worked up about something. Makes you feel good and relaxed again...

Hi,

I started to play guitar with 15, first Band with 16...ok, it's wasn't a real band, we were more a mix of people who were very enthusiastic to pound on some rather cheap instruments and called ourself "a Band".
Soon after that phase the first real band started 1-2 years later), when we started to "work and practice" instead of being just loud.
:D

'Till I was 24-25 I had a couple of bands, one more the Maiden/Priest style, one more Motorhead/Almighty style (with me also singing).

After that I stopped playing seriously and was more hanging around with my MC. Now, 7 years later I am trying to get again a band together, prolly more bluesy/rock'n'roll than heavy.

Saxon songs I played in those years were 747, Wheels of steel, Denim & Leather and Crusader if I remember correctly.

Cool to see so many musicians out there!
I played guitar and did lead vocals in a band back in the early nineties. I also did a touch of keyboard and bass, but I never felt I was shit hot on any instrument - I was more of an ideas man. I came up with most of the music and lyrics for the band and we did OK for a time, playing in a few festivals and stuff.
The band, called 'Room 101', was kind of an arty-prog band, so Saxon stuff was never really brought into it. But I can remember me and the drummer jamming out 'Dallas 1pm' & 'Wheels Of Steel' whilst waiting for a lift after a practice session when the other guys had gone home!
I'd love to get into music again, just for a good time - I'd like to have a setlist of classic stuff from early AC/DC, Saxon (of course) and Led Zeppelin, with a little bit of Motorhead for the encore.
I haven't picked up a guitar in years but, like a bike, you never forget how to play!

Hi,

hehe, the hard part is nightwar, you don't forget it, but your fingers get rusty...that is what I am struggling with right now...I know what to do...but it's very frustrating when your head is so far ahead of you left hand...*sigh*

But I'm on my way...
;)

Yeah, Kelly - sorry, I didn't mean that I was still able to do the stuff as well as I could all those years ago (boo-hoo!).
The old brain can remember all that is necessary, but I ain't sure if the old left hand can react properly enough!
Also, I can clearly remember having finger tips as tough as an elephant's hide, and now their as soft as a baby's bum! I would probably have to endure some pain if I picked up the guitar or bass again!
Anyhoo, Kelly, don't give up - it will come back to you really quickly and I'm sure the fingers will learn how to catch up!

Yeah, I know nightwar, and the opportunities with these new people are really great.

In case anybody is interested, check out www.vanillarex.de .
That's the band of the other guitar player of this little project, Vanilla Rex is a bit different style, but still great, definately worth checking out.

It's great to know that you've found like-minded people, Kelly!
I'd love to get into doing a few gigs again, but it's so hard these days to find people that are into proper music, let alone willing to commit some time to it!

i used to play the guitar some time ago but i need more training
fat greetings to all guitarheroes out there and never stop to play
in the time of this electronic mass-shit it´s important to let it rock on!
let heavy metal live forever!

I like this thread! Yeah, I've been playing for a little over ten years. I'm not bad, but I'm no Yngwie, that's for sure! If anyone's interested, there's a link to my band's site below. Hasn't been updated in awhile, but we will try and do it soon. We play heavy, bluesy hard rock in the vein of Saxon, Riot, Tygers Of Pan Tang, etc. Mostly originals. No Saxon covers yet (thinking of doing "Never Surrender," though), although we have covered a few classics including:

"Jailbreak"- Thin Lizzy
"Black Night"- Deep Purple
"Nothing At All"- Hazzard (Herman Frank's band after leaving Accept; pre-Victory, they put out just one album that I'm aware of)
"Carry On Wayward Son"- Kansas

I'm 24 and have played guitar for around 10 years off and on, the band I'm in now always have these songs in our setlist:

Denim & Leather
Ride Like The Wind
Power and Glory
and Wheels of Steel
