Guitar shops in New York

I'm getting big-time deja vu here man, do you make annual trips to NYC or something? :D Anyway, 48th street and 7th ave is where it's at, as well as Guitar Center on 14th St.; let me know when you'll be in the area dude

Yeah I went there for St. Patrick's week, 2009 (or 2008, can't remember - it was a very drunken week!). Was actually expecting huge music shops considering it's NY and all...to be honest, there's a music shop in Dublin city centre (Music Maker) that's more impressive, ground floor all bass & guitar, basement all percussion (pretty big too) and upstairs is all piano & pro-audio. Marcus, I remember you telling me the places to check out too...the main one's I found were just off that big stairs thing on Times Square.
I also remember two Irish pubs (across the road from eachother) roughly in that area too! :-)

Haha nah, I havn't been there yet!

Is there more than one shop at 48th street and 7th ave? I'm really stoked to go to Guitar Center after seeing your visit with Joe and Felix.
I will! Sucks to be 20 in the US tho... in Sweden you're allowed to go to pubs at 18 and buy alcohol in liquor stores at 20.

digitaldeath: I'll try to check those out!

Actually, that hallowed amp room where we went is part of Rudy's Music Stop on 48th, and then there's Sam Ash and I think Manny's, though they may have closed - the guitar center is cool too though, definitely the biggest selection, mainly because they can afford a bigger place (and Niall, that's mainly what it comes down to, the expense of running a store around there - glad you found some tastes of home though! :D)

i love the guitar center on 14th, the downstairs is really cool too. The sam ash is meh, and i have been to a few smaller shops that arent too great. GC is your best bet, but the employees might be dicks too you if you dont buy anything or play too much :bah:

Yup - Manny's closed last year - June or July I think. Bought out by Sam Ash - thought I had read that they converted it into a Sam Ash, but if I recall there are like three other Sam Ash stores on w 48th Street, "Music Avenue" as it is known, alone. I could be wrong, but I thought I read a New York Times article about it last year.
