I know it's kind of pointless to do these "Guitar Sound"-Threads, but in this case, I'm just so interested in what went into that sound. It's obvious that the production is far from the "Modern Sneapster Metalcore Sound", that most guys here probably worship as the holy grail, but to me it's really the best DM production I've ever heared. I'm guessing a huge part of it is Hobbs extremely dense palm muting, but the chordslides and muted notes on the album sound like nothing I've ever heard before. I've been able to recreate the sound a tad bit using slight amounts of fuzz in front of meaty sounding amps in the Kemper (Soldano and Bogner Profiles sometimes work), but I'm fairly certain that the original sound is a Rectifier, and I have no idea how to get something like that out of there.

Do any of you guys know anything about it, or have a clue how the tone could have been achieved?

Wow you're serious? I dunno man, that one is my least favorite album of theirs as far as the production goes. Kind of a spongy guitar sound. I may have read somewhere it was a POD XT but I have no clue if that's true or not.

Actually they said something about usng Engl and Peavey recently, specifically a Peavey 3120 in a recent facebook post, and I've read that Terence used Ampeg amps for a bit, not sure when though.

Yeah, I figured it would be a bit wierd for some people here, but I really liked the production for some reason. Really powerfull and huge, sounds like a real band, not a bunch of robots.

The drums do sound good. I'm actually listening to it now. Just not big on the guitar tone.

It's a sweet sound indeed. There have been a thread about this before, i also remember someone mentioned all the guitars were line6. Terrance played abit on an Ampeg amp in the making-off, tho he prefers Peavey 3210/XXX.

Coming from their biggest fanboy, the album WAS recorded with POD XT's, I don't see why you would want that tone either.

Effigy Of the Forgotten - First gen Ampeg VH-140c, EMG 81, no boost.
Pierced From Within - Marshall Valvestate 8100 with Korg G1 overdrive, I believe this where Terrence started using Dimarzio Super Distortions as well.
Despise The Sun - Ampeg VH-140c.
Souls to Deny - Ampeg VH-140c.
Suffocation - POD XT.
Blood Oath - Peavey Triple XXX with 6L6's and Super Distortion (no boost)
Pinnacle of Bedlam - Peavey 3120 (possibly with EL34's) boosts pedals now used (Guy uses the Maxon OD808, Terrence uses the OD9+ Pro) I need to get the DVD that came out with the CD :(
