I don't know jack about this topic. I'm googleing now but in the meantime...

I'm interested in useing a guitar to play the keys in EWQL Symphonic Orchestra into DP on my mac.
Do I have to have a midi pickup installed or is there a converter I can just plug into?
Anyone have any product recomendations?
I'd rather not install a pickup but this is what I've found so far which sounds like it would achieve what I want to do:

You need a synth pickup like the Roland GK3 and a MIDI converter such as the Roland GI20. No way around it.
Ok. Thanks Kazrog. I read it's easy to install but have'nt found what the actual
process is. Could I just use 2 sided tape? :tickled: :erk:
(On a beat up guitar of coarse)

It looks/sounds to me like it would...

that, i'm not sure of...are the synth sounds being generated from your computer, or would you need another source for that?

Hey Brett, have you ever heard of a midi guitar with a converter built in it?
What do you make of this?

It has the 5 pin connections built in.
I guess Kazrog already answered my question from the beginning and we're going in circles now. :Spin: So this thread is near death.

That doesn't even have a standard 1/4" out, right?? I don't really see the point of that unless you're going to play a whole song via midi...And if you're going to just use it for recording, you'd probably have as much success recording your standard guitar and then processing it Audio to Score or something. $0.02

I've been playing with guitar synths for some years now. I've owned several Roland products and now own a Terratec Axon guitar to MIDI device. Terratec bought the technology from a small company called Blue Chip some time ago and is now building the devices themselves. The tracking is better and faster then Roland's. Check it out at http://audioen.terratec.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1
It's compatible with Roland's hex pickups (Axon, Roland and Yamaha hex pickups are the same anyways).

If you have any questions just ask.

I don't know anything about this. Do you mean taking an audio track of guitar then turning it into a midi track then having QLSO's Kampakt player play it as strings or whatever? Could I do this with DP? This aproach would be fine for now.
I tried turning a midi track into an audio track recently but was not having any luck. I tried both the freezing thing and creating an instrument track, just was'nt getting it.

Tym_ex - This thing looks REAL sweet. I'll definitely keep it in mind.
How realistic do the violins/strings, sitar, sax & tuba sound?
Would I be able to play the QLSO instruments via the Kampakt player plug-in with a guitar and the Axon?

I'm not one of the several DP professors on this site, but I'm sure they'll help you with that....in the meantime, i did a quick google search and came up with this, I don't know if it works well, but it's free and runs on VST...

DP runs VST plugins, right? I don't use it so I wouldn't know.

I thought it did but I'm not finding any mention of VST anywhere.
I did just find out that the 4.6 update made the copy audio to midi feature available and will have to try that. No mention of midi to audio though.

It looks like that site might have something.
