Here is the final round! After this the previous winners will face off.

This round will get 5 days because it holds fewer contestants.

When voting, please keep in mind this is about the guitar tone. Some have louder guitars than others. No extreme differences though. Some files were submitted with master bus changes. These were disqualified. Some files were submitted with a much louder backing track. These too were disqualified. All the uploaded files here have been checked, but it may be that we missed a mistake. If you hear that someone didn't follow the rules let Anssi and myself know.

Without further delay, here are the 4 contestants for round 10.

If you recognise your own work, please keep it to yourself. Usernames will be made public in the end. Please place your vote, and post in the thread with your reasoning!

All uploaded files are 320kbps mp3s. Note that this round starts with 10D due to previous disqualification.

10D is great! I think one of the better tones I've heard in the contest. NIce mids and controlled highs with no extra bass.

:headbang:

G is the best..

Anyway, how can i learn, who mixed and made such good tones for this song? After the contest or..?

Look at the previous rounds, clip info has been posted for every one of them. I'll do the same after this, the next, and the final round.

Well 10G clearly won this one!

mp: 6505+
Cab: 2x12
Mics: Shure sm57 (edge of the dustcup) and ADK S-7 (center of the speaker). The sm57 is 7-8db lower than S-7.
Chain: profire 2626 -> Little Labs Redeye -> TS7 -> 6505+

I grouped the first 2 tracks (L and R) directly on the Guitars Bus and the other 2 in a "intermediate" bus, where I lower the levels about 5-6 dB than the first 2 tracks.

For the melodies and the lead I simply use the TC Electronic reverb and a delay

Hi, I tried to follow the rules so I think I haven't messed up with anything.

I re-amped the tracks (never tried that before) passing the DI tracks signal through my gear.
It consists in a Boss ME-50 (using its distortion) linked to a Roland Micro-cube (clean channel) and then
into an active homemade Cab (2x10") with a SM57 pointing to a middle point between the cap and the cone.

Then in mixing, I hard panned most of the guitars.

- For L1 and R1 i used the BD-2 distortion emulation of my Boss, then hard panned
- For L2 and R2 i used Guv distortion emulation, then hard panned
- For C I doubled the track, in one i used BD-2 emulation then in the other, the Guv emulation
next, hard panned both for Right side as I automated R1 and R2 to mute while C was playing.
- For Melodies, hard panned each and used the OD-2 emulation
- For Lead used DST+ emulation and centered
- Then I aligned the volumes and mixed all to fit the backing track, bused all the signals and used a EQ on the final Guitar Bus.

You can see the screenshot for details, and also included a pic of the Cab miced.
