Initially I just want to get some input on what people think of this tone. All I want to say at this point is that it's a Laney VH100R. Recorded with a condensor microphone. There is a no processing version, just what the microphone picked up. The other is with a bit of post EQ.

So what do you reckon? Usable tone, or muddy as fuck?

Very usable for some Mastodon shit... nice... i like how organic it can sound!

Yeah, I think the condenser is giving a roundness that would have limited use. It would be really cool if you could post some more material with this amp. I'm really interested in it. But, I cant find any quality videos of it on youtube that are directly miked. It's al hand cam stuff.

only problem i see (or hear) in the tone is a bit too much of the low mids and not enough high-mid bite which I think could be fixed with some moderate eq, but the base for the tone in general is a great benchmark as it sounds great.

ahaha. I didn't even notice :D

Okay... well... I didn't want to admit this up front, because I didn't want to taint people's opinions. But I used one of these:

Personally, I think this is one of the best tones I've ever got! The cab I used was a JCM900 1936 2x12, with T75's. Mic is pointed directly at the centre of the cap.

This tone rules hardcore Drew, wish I could hear some really putrid, noisy death metal played with this tone. Pure mud, I love it \m/

And yeah, I've always gotten cool results on guitars with budget condensers, don't hate yo. That type of stuff always has a nice character to it

omg, T.BONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used one of those for vocals, well... the 47 seconds before it broke that is. Hate to say it, experimenting is great, but for guitar: SM57. You can EQ it to death later on, with a condenser you're pretty much fucked from the beginning. Condensers just 'click' the shit out of everything.

I am well aware of the usefulness of the SM57, but I was experimenting. I actually think the tone I've got from the T-Bone is much better than anything I've ever got from my SM57!! I'll do some comparison clips.

and you wanted to sell it, keep it man put a ts7 on that bitch.....very usable tone.......i'v used this in the studio with a tube screamer ts7 alot tighter, kranked it rules! i assume your using light gain on this clip?

Nah mate, the gain is properly cranked. 7 on both knobs. But the volume isn't very loud, so the power section isn't being pushed *that* hard.

you must have the master volume on 1 or 2 then? around 5 thats when the beauty of the tone comes out....these amps suck with low volume i have the gh5oL, kranked another animal comes out.....try it with impulses if you cant blast it i use my palmer as a load

Yeah, just above 2.

I've actually been contemplating pulling two power tubes, to make it 50watt.

It's beautiful when you have a slightly lower then optimal gain and then you crank it and let the power tubes do the rest

+111111.......oh dont pull any tubes out ask a amp technician first!!!! and get a ts7 if you dont have one really cheap and worth it believe me!
