Guitar tone verses bass tone tips

Just looking for your personal tips on this.

Will you guys dial in a tone you like first, record it then add the bass?

Its just been a little time consuming with me recently, recording guitars then adding bass and the tone has changed from I LOVE THAT SHIT, to... its alright.

Am I doing something wrong?

Any tips would be awesome

Maybe try doing the bass first, even if it's just with a bit of compression and no eq. At least it would give you the low end of the bass so that you can work your guitar tone around that.

I usually record a scratch guitar and bass first, then the final guitars and then the final bass

And when you say scratch guitars, do you mean a rough guitar track and rough bass, then work around those?

yeah, temporary guide tracks. Usually has minor errors and such, and recorded in one or few takes

Seems like a bit of a nooby question now I've read the answers haha thought it would be good to get some other opinions though
