I just picked this CD up after reading a couple of online reviews. WOW what a great METAL album. Rollercoaster of melodies, but not too much time spent on the soft side, balanced with crunching rythm guitars and blazing solos! The last track is a little cheesy like JP's Lochness. All in all though an enjoyable listen. I highly recomend it!

What say you?

I had great expectations for this cd, but it got shelved pretty quickly. There are a couple good songs, but it just doesn't have the same power & energy that Legacy of Kings had. They're going for a little darker sound on this cd, which is respectable, but I don't think it suits them so well. I don't know what they're trying to do with the last track... "the prophecy"... it's kinda goofy.

Maybe I'll pull this of the shelf in 6 months & love it, but right now it's a bit disappointing. I think they set the bar too high with Legacy of Kings.

Hammerfall is just....bah, so whiffleballed! They sound so weak.

There's so many better bands of that ilk...such as Stormwarrior. \m/

Haven't heard the new Hammerfall, but they are a band I always had a love/hate relationship with. To me, they are consistently inconsistent. Some of their songs I really like a lot, but some are so bland that I have no interest in hearing them more than a couple of times. I found making a 'best of' mixed cd was the way to go with Hammerfall, at least for me. I made a cd of just the songs I liked from various albums so I wouldn't have to sit through a whole album by them.

I actually liked Joachim's solo album better than any of the Hammerfall ones. That said, I think Hammerfall as a band wrote some better songs, but Cans - Fields of Yesterday was more consistent. I can at least listen to that whole album without wanting to hit fast forward.

Nice to see you're still branching out into the Euro world of heavy metal rokk! I'm proud of you.

Much more solid then Crimson Thunder or Renegade, I feel anyway.

Interesting point. I wouldn't go that far IMO, but I believe Hammerfall hadn't failed so far. The new album is a very good effort and keeps the tradition of good melodic power metal, still I feel "Crimson Thunder" much stronger.

And of course in 15 days I'm going to be headbanging in front of them so...:D

I actually can say that I liked Crimson better...
Could be that it was because that was the second record by them that I bought...

That may be. But my second one was "Glory To The Brave" and I still like more "Crimson Thunder" and "Renegade".

What I do love a lot from Hammerfall is that in each album they have at least one kick-ass song that worths the entire slab price.

"Glory To The Brave": 'Child Of The Damned' (I know is a cover)
"Legacy Of Kings": 'Heeding The Call'
"Renegade": 'Renegade'
"Crimson Thunder": 'Traiblazers'
"Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken": 'Fury Of The Wild'

Legacy Of kIngs was my first and still my favorite. I was kinda dissapointed with Renegade . Not that I didnt love it but just not as much. Then CrimsonThunder I thought was about the same as Renegade. I havent heard Glory To The Brave, Yes I know for shame, anyway I was just more enthused and energetic about Chapter V. The first four songs alone I think are the best series of songs since Legacy of Kings. Consistent wise and I feel the album has more of a old Judas Priest/Accept feelings that I was really looking for around the time of its release. I was looking for a departure from Thrash for a while.

Album favs.
Legacy Of Kings= The whole damn album from start to finish
Renegade = Always will be , Renegade, Way Of the Warrior
Crimson Thunder= Hearts On Fucking FIRE!!!!! ,Hero's Return
Chapter V. = Secrets, Blood Bound, Fury Of the Wild, Hammer Of Justice

I think all of Hammerfalls ballads kick ass too. Espc. Always Will Be. and Fallen One.

I just picked up this release last week. First Cd I have gotten by them. I never even heard any of there music before actually. I seen them talked about on a lot of these forums so I decided to pick it up when I seen it at Best Buy. I have to say it's pretty good. I like it quite a bit. A little cheesy but thats alright, sometimes I like a good dose of cheese. By the way I also picked up Dream Evil - The Book of Heavy Metal and the new Overkill while I was there. I have to say Best Buy is really stepping up with the metal releases lately! Very nice to be able to see some of this stuff in a major chain like that. :headbang:

The new HammerFall is great. It is my favorite right behind Legacy of Kings which will probably always be my favorite from them. I enjoy all of HammerFall's albums and don't dislike any of them. I am looking foward to seeing them with EdGuy in August. Saw HammerFall open for Dio in December 2003 and they were really good.

Could it be that they haven't progressed as a band & songwriters?
Just a thought...

Maybe, but then again so what? A lot of people had criticized AC/DC and Motorhead for playing the same sound time and again. If a formula is successfull for the band with fans why change it?

I've read a lot of criticism for bands like Amorphis, Sentenced, Blind Guardian because of their change of sound (which I don't share btw)...and let's not even go to Metallica. So I don't see any crime/problem in keeping your style time and again.
