how does Wine affect the performance of the computer?
because in my eyes the only positive point of Linux, its that it's a lighter OS, and if Wine slows it down, there is no reason to get it

If wine is not an emulator, then Project64 isn't either.

What wine does is provide an abstraction layer for windows syscalls in posix environments. It's not a hardware instruction level emulation (that'd be slow) but it's emulation nonetheless.

The fact that 'not an emulator' is the acronym's meaning is largely irrelevant.
