Has anyone used DigiTech ValveFX?

I'm borrowing a friend's ValveFX processor just to see if it's any good on recordings (direct to protools, no mics).

I own a POD and i've got decent results from that but I wanted to try something new. Just playing with the ValveFX through my stereo it sounds pretty good, but i haven't used it yet with my mixes. Does anyone have any comments/suggestions on it? I know it's at least a few years old but maybe it's good because its expensive as hell; it probably cost more than the last nevermore album production.

i have had a valve fx for about a year now with no real problems. I paid about £199 for it used. The valve preamp in the unit is reasonable and gives quite a fat tone. The sound quality is not as clean as the pod but i prefer a more raw sound anyway. The other option is go all software i use IK multimedia's amplitube all the time
